Despite its historic and ironic namesake, the TCL Chinese Theater has seen only a handful of hand and foot print ceremonies for Asian and Asian American actors. Naturally, this can be attributed to the lack of Asian and Asian American representation in cinematic history overall. However, with that now changing gradually, it fills us with joy to learn that on February 3rd, a new legend will join the ranks of Jackie Chan, James Hong, John Woo, and Justin Lin in this tremendous honor: Academy Award winner Ke Huy Quan!
In celebration of Quan’s new film Love Hurts, the actor will have his hands and feet immortalized in cement at an official ceremony at the legendary TCL Chinese Theatre. On hand for the ceremony will be The Daniels, who directed Quan to his Oscar-winning performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once, among many others from his latest film.
The ceremony is a significant achievement for Quan, who saw an uphill road throughout his career as a child actor, as Data in Goonies, and Short-Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Due to the industry’s lack of diversity and good roles for Asian and Asian American actors, Quan essentially all but quit Hollywood. However the Daniels’ brilliant Oscar-winning script thankfully brought him back into the fold.
After even conquering the MCU with his role as OB in Loki, Quan is now officially anchoring his own action film from the producers of The Fall Guy, Atomic Blonde, Nobody, and John Wick! And in doing so, along with his hands and feet, the actor is officially cementing his status as a true Hollywood A-lister! Congrats Ke! And thanks for all you’ve done for Asians and Asian Americans in the industry!
