Keanu and Aziz Give Nurturing Dude Vibes in ‘Good Fortune’ Trailer

I wasn’t aware of the “Goodnight Bro” trend happening on TikTok, until yesterday. I also recently became aware that Good Fortune is a film coming out in October from Lionsgate, written and directed by Aziz Ansari, starring Keanu Reeves, Sandra Oh, Keke Palmer, Seth Rogen, and Ansari.

These two things are related because Good Fortune released this delightful promo video with Reeves and Ansari enacting the #GoodnightBros meme, which is essentially about dudes calling their male friends before they go to bed, because (again, I just heard this from someone) feelings.

AWWW. This trend slaps. This trend is going to fix the planet. What I mean is, it’s great to stumble onto an online activity that avoids self-harm and hate-shouting in favor of something that promotes empathy and tender emotions between grown men. It is mildly hilarious that the concept of saying goodnight to bros is considered super-hilarious because of our insanely destructive preconceptions about what men do and what men don’t do.

Also, Keanu and Aziz are the perfect dudes to pull off this joke. They give added fun to a joke that is already fun for poking at our society-wide Manly-Masculinity-Says-Eff-Your-Feelings problem, partly because of the Asian American Guy thing, and also because they’re promoting a movie about a semi-competent guardian angel (played by Reeves).

Someone remind me, Keanu has been an angel before, or…? I’ve lost track at this point. Did I mention Keke Palmer and Sandra Oh are in it?

Anyway, here’s the official new trailer for Good Fortune, coming to theaters on October 17.

Seems to touch on themes of race, class, redemption, techbros, angels, good times. Good night, dudes.
