‘Wolverine’ PS5 Game Trailer: Snikt, Snikt, Boom

A new trailer for the much-anticipated Wolverine game from Insomniac Games debuted at Playstation’s State of Play showcase. Many X-Nerds were gratified to see that Omega Red, Mystique, and a big ol’ Sentinel are glimpsed, along with ultra-violent gameplay:

Insomniac made the wildly successful Spider-Man games featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, which is primarily why confidence and vibes are very high with the studio taking a “stab” at another iconic Marvel character. Spider-Man and Wolverine certainly have very different natures and aesthetics, and this trailer seems to lean into the essential Wolverine thing of slicing up anyone who gets in his way.

It’s worth noting, part of what made Insomniac’s Spider-Man games so compelling is that the spider-power set is somewhat unusual among video game protagonists, whereas Wolverine’s main skill fits right in among dozens of “hack and slash” games. A truly superlative part of the Spider-Man games is the webswinging traversal, which makes the plain act of wandering around New York City a ridiculously fun activity. Wolverine doesn’t naturally have that, although in the previewed gameplay he does have a motorcycle, and also maybe (hopefully!) somebody will throw him.

The trailer confirms that Wolverine for Playstation 5 will release in Fall of 2026.
