By the Power of Grayskull, the ‘Masters of the Universe’ Trailer Definitely Has the Power

Amazon MGM Studios teased it was coming yesterday, but the brand new trailer for the upcoming live action Masters of the Universe adaptation lives up to the hype.

It’s been nearly 40 years since the last live action adaptation, and while the newest one takes some cues from that ’80s classic — namely, setting much of the plot on Earth — this teaser trailer has enough references and easter eggs to the source material to put a smile on every MOTU fan’s face.

You can tell Bumblebee’s Travis Knight is at the helm because the shots we see of Eternia are very reminiscent of the Transformers prequel’s epic Cybertron set pieces. From seeing Castle Grayskull realized in live action to the source-accurate looks of villains like Spikor and Beast-Man battling heroes like Man-At-Arms and Fisto (not to mention what looks to be an epic throwdown between Camila Mendes’ Teela and Alison Brie’s Evil-Lyn), each frame of the teaser brought a tear to this fanboy’s eyes.

But the piece de resistance was the reveal of Skeletor:

Sure, Leto wasn’t my first choice for the role, and while Frank Langella will always be iconic, but seeing Skeletor brandishing his Havoc Staff and going toe-to-toe with Nicholas Galitzine — in full He-Man regalia… I’m not nerd-crying, you’re nerd-crying!

No doubt this is the most powerful trailer in the universe.

June 5 can’t get here fast enough!
