Disney’s ‘Chang Can Dunk’ Trailer Mixes Basketball and Identity

The trailer and key art for the new Disney+ Original Film Chang Can Dunk has just been revealed. Written and directed by Jingyi Shao, the coming-of-age sports comedy stars Bloom Li as Chang, a 16-year-old Asian American kid in the marching band who bets the school basketball star that he could dunk a basketball by Homecoming.

Philip Zhao is Ready for Hollywood in ‘Ready Player One’

Fourteen-year-old Philip Zhao is a freshman in high school and a gamer who enjoys NBA 2K18 in his hometown in Maryland. His whole world was turned upside down when his father sent in an audition tape for a little film called Ready Player One, directed by one of the most famous directors in the world — Steven Spielberg. Zhao was picked through a nationwide search, beating out hundreds of young actors who auditioned. In the film, Zhao plays Sho, a gamer in the OASIS and part of the High Five, who are hurled into a fantastical universe of discovery and danger to save the OASIS and their world.

The Nerds of Color sat down with the actor to chat about his first major role, his favorite Easter eggs from the film, and what this film means to him and his generation.

Follow and Win the ‘Ready Player One’ Novel

Win Morisaki Takes on America and Disney with ‘Ready Player One’

Win Morisaki is not a household name, certainly not to American audiences, but he’s ready to be. As the lead singer of the J-Pop group, PrizmaX, Morisaki is no stranger to the spotlight. He’s done music, movies, and TV.  Now, the 27-year-old actor and singer will make his international debut in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One as Toshiro Yoshiaki, aka Daito, a gamer in the OASIS and part of the High Five. 

The Nerds of Color sat down with the actor to chat about being part of a Spielberg film, being part of Generation Z, and how it feels to represent his identity on the big screen.

Please note, Morisaki is still learning English and had to use a translator at times during the meeting and those answers were used during the interview.
