Sung Kang’s Werewolf Comedy ‘Shaky Shivers’ Exclusively in Theaters September 21

From director Sung Kang (star of Fast X), after finding herself bitten by a mysterious animal, Lucy (played by Brooke Markham) becomes convinced that she will transform into a fearsome werewolf. Joined by her best friend Karen (played by VyVy Nguyen), the two embark on a campy adventure filled with magic and mayhem, as they look to do battle with a throat-slashing creature ripped right out of an ’80s horror movie.

For all ye fans of Sung Kang and his enigmatic Han character from the Fast & Furious franchise, he will be making his directorial debut with this delightful campy horror comedy that will be exclusively in theaters September 21 for one night only!

DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT

I’ve wanted to direct my first feature for a long time now. I’ve written several scripts, and read hundreds more. There were several times where I would find a good project to attach myself to, but ultimately, for a myriad of reasons, it never felt quite right in my gut. A good friend of mine wrote Shaky Shivers. I read it the night he gave it to me, and by the next day I knew this was it. It had a great balance of horror and comedy, and it brought me right back to my VHS-renting childhood. As a kid, this was my film school. And I needed that escapism, especially being a Korean kid growing up in Georgia in the 1980’s.

To me, Shaky Shivers had it all. It’s an homage to the pioneers of practical horror VFX I grew up watching. It’s also full of great comedy and provides a happy ending that makes me contemplate about being a better person. We all know it’s been a heavy and divisive couple of years, and this is a movie that helps you forget about all of that. I wanted to make a film that would make me jump with fear, and at the same time, laugh my ass off.

The shoot was grueling. I didn’t get much sleep. But I loved every minute of it. Interacting with the crew, directing the actors, and being in front of the monitor to watch everything come to life was a dream come true. There were so many moments of laughter I’ll never forget. It was exhilarating to call ‘cut’ after witnessing a perfect take, and then walking onto set, congratulating everyone. Every cast and crew member were on the same page, they all believed in this movie. I knew in my heart we were making something special.

THE CAST OF THE MOTION PICTURE

Brooke Markham trained at the prestigious London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts graduating with an MFA in Acting. Her TV credits include starring roles in: In The Dark for the CW, Amazon Studios, A Kid Called Mayonnaise, Cassandra French’s Finishing School for the Audience Network & Hulu’s Foursome. On the film side, Markham can next be seen in the indie A Great Divide starring Ken Jeong, directed by Jean Shim. Other credits include, the Sundance hit Deidra & Laney Rob A Train opposite Missi Pyle, the Netflix original Dude for director Olivia Milch, and Friend Request for director Simon Verhoeven. Brooke is a founding member of the classical theatre company, The Wet Mariners.

VyVy Nguyen is a Vietnamese American actress hailing from Anaheim, California. She graduated from USC’s School of Dramatic Arts and also studied abroad with the British American Drama Academy. TV credits include Young Sheldon, The Mindy Project, Parenthood, NCIS: Los Angeles, and BoJack Horseman. She recently completed filming on the upcoming HBO series The Sympathizer, which is set to release in 2024. She is represented by A3 and Crimson Media Group.
