These days, so many critics of the current film landscape like to point out the lack of originality in storytelling. But the horror genre is and always has been a breeding ground for that originality to flourish. Many directors are able to tell their stories in short film form, and go on to adapt them for feature-length films. David F. Sandberg did this with Lights Out. And now Bryce McGuire is doing it with his and Rod Blackhurst’s short film, Night Swim.
Now to the delight of horror fans everywhere, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster have picked up the rights to the short film, and given McGuire the opportunity to turn it into a creepy-looking new movie, hitting theaters January 5.
Take a look at the new trailer for the film here:
The feature adaptation will be written and directed by McGuire himself, and will star Wyatt Russell, Academy Award Nominee Kerry Condon, Amélie Hoeferle, and Gavin Warren.
Really makes you not want to take a dip in your own pool, right?
The creepy original short first debuted in 2014, and can be seen on Blackhurst’s YouTube channel:
