Crafting any studio blockbuster is a challenging endeavor. Worlds and galaxies begin with the ideas of a gifted writer or director (or both in the case of James Gunn), but have to become reality. And that’s really where so much time, energy, and effort from hard working individuals, such as the VFX team from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 come into the picture.
Whether or not folks will care to admit it, we don’t acknowledge the hard work of behind the scenes crew members as much as we should. Sometimes, we will rally behind actors and writers more than folks being asked to put in overtime on a rushed schedule to build a universe for a scene that ultimately will get scrapped or completely changed by studio notes. And yet, at the end of the day, that work is what gives a movie the full verisimilitude to immerse us into the world and characters of a story.
Thus it was an honor to be able to speak with Visual Effects Supervisor, Stephane Ceretti, Framestore VFX Supervisor, Alexis Wajsbrot, WETA VFX Supervisor, Guy Williams, and Sony/Imageworks VFX Supervisor, Theo Bialek about the amazing work they put into bringing Gunn’s vision to life in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now streaming on Disney +.
