The last time we saw him, he was recovering in a hospital bed after being shot by a smaller bullet by Bloodsport. And now he has his own HBO Max series! That’s right! Christopher Smith, aka Peacemaker, is back in the brand new series, Peacemaker!Continue reading “DC FanDome: Trailer and Release Date for ‘Peacemaker’ Revealed”
For those out there, like myself, who can’t get enough of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, any semblance or scrap of a sequel is, frankly, something to foam at the mouth for. And though Peacemaker proved to be the sequel’s true villain, there’s something about John Cena’s oblivious earnestness and hilarious charisma that does make me curious to see where the upcoming Peacemaker series is going to go. We know after the events of the film, that ARGUS desk-jockeys John Economos (Steve Agee) and Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) were sent to take back a very-much-alive Christopher Smith. But where things go from there remains a real mystery.Continue reading “New ‘Peacemaker’ Clip Shows Up in Full Cosplay Mode”
Keith rejoins Britney and Dominic to share final thoughts on The Suicide Squad, revisit Cathy Yan’s contributions to the DC canon, break down the whole Shang-Chi experiment “controversy,” and review the first episode of Disney+’s What If.Continue reading “Hard NOC Life 230: ‘What If’ We Stopped Comparing Shang-Chi to Black Panther?”
I don’t typically like to compare movies. Sure, most films of recent are either a reboot, sequel or adaptation. At the very least, they take reference from kind of source material. But some movies are more comparable than others, like Suicide Squad (2016) and The Suicide Squad (2021). However, aside from confusingly similar titles, a couple of returning players, and a similar world-saving plot, these two movies have almost nothing in common.Continue reading “In Retrospect: ‘Birds of Prey’ and the Un-Fantabulous Omission of One Cathy Yan”
The Suicide Squad is my favorite movie of the year so far. James Gunn’s tribute to the pulpy demented works of John Ostrander’s DC run in the ’80s is bloody, bold, and brilliantly surreal. And none of it would be possible if it wasn’t for a stolen Style Watch!Continue reading “Tyla Talks Task Force X: An Interview with Storm Reid of ‘The Suicide Squad’”
Oh boy. Buckle up nerds! The Suicide Squad is coming! I’m not talking about the movie, by the way. I’m talking about the most insane and hilarious group of people I’ve ever seen at a press conference.Continue reading “‘The Suicide Squad’ and the Funniest. Press. Conference. Ever!”

In late 2019, which seems a whole world ago, The Nerds Of Color were invited to Atlanta, GA to visit the set of The Suicide Squad, which premieres on HBO Max and in theaters this Friday, August 6. Early reviews of the sequel/not-a-sequel are already out, and here’s a few more things we learned from the set visit about the “shitty supervillain” war caper film, based on the DC Comics.
SPOILERS FOLLOW! Also, possibly, opinions.Continue reading “‘The Suicide Squad’ Set Visit: It’s Harley Quinn’s Multiverse, We’re Just Living and Dying In It”
You’ll have to forgive me for geeking out just a bit here. But I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this insane movie twice now, and I still want more. I cannot begin to describe to you all how much I enjoyed this movie the first time, and even how much more I enjoyed it the second time around. The Suicide Squad is James Gunn off the leash! And I think comic book movies will be better for it!Continue reading “NOC Review: ‘The Suicide Squad’ is Pure Comic Book Punk Rock”

This month we’re discussing films we watched as part of Washington DC’s Arabian Sights Film festival. With films from Palestine, Lebanon, Tunisia, and more, this festival conveys the array of work being done by MENA filmmakers and we are so excited to share our thoughts with all of you! But before that, we discuss the exciting news of DC/Warner Brothers casting Iranian-American actress Sarah Shahi for Black Adam, the not-so-exciting news of Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins teaming up for a Cleopatra film, and a continuation of our discussion of “cancel culture” regarding a certain Chris (he’s a rich white cis-het man, he’ll be fine y’all). Enjoy listening!Continue reading “The Middle Geeks Episode 18: DC’s Arabian Sights Festival and DC’s MENA Heroes”
Oh man, the anticipation is killing me! Today during DC FanDome, James Gunn and the full cast of The Suicide Squad, including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Alice Braga, John Cena, Viola Davis, and more took to the internet to share some awesome announcements and fun for fans across the world, who have been waiting on pins and needles for the eagerly awaited follow-up. And my god. I think they may have just won the whole DC FanDome experience!
This week on Hard NOC Life, Keith and Dominic try to guess the characters who will be in James Gunn’s Suicide Squad sequel.
Idris Elba will replace Will Smith in the James Gunn-helmed Suicide Squad, dropping in 2021. For some reason, to me, this feels like the death knell for Elba to be the monstrous movie star we all know he deserves to be. Don’t @ me, but Elba isn’t where he should and could be. He’s made some career missteps (way more in film and music than on television), but I don’t think this is why he’s bubbled for so long, instead of popping.
Shawn returns to Hard NOC Life to go over the latest and greatest developments in Nerd World.
I give my thoughts on Marvel Studios’ latest film Guardians of the Galaxy. Plus, as always, we review the characters and their costumes. Continue reading The Costumes of Guardians of the Galaxy
