When it comes to MCU news, I tend to air on the side of caution. Given we aren’t a click bait publication, we don’t (and shouldn’t) report on anything that’s just rumored or speculative without basis or educated reason for speculation (like an officially released trailer or poster). But with that being said, given this morning’s tweets from both director James Gunn and Marvel Studios, we can officially report that production is finally underway on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3!Continue reading “They’re Back! Production Begins on ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’”
While Britney and Dominic await the long-rumored Spider-Man: No Way Home trailer, they share some quick thoughts on the Eternals trailer, Jurnee Smollet’s return as Black Canary, how to pronounce “Shang-Chi,” and why Chadwick Boseman’s appearance on Disney+’s What If was so emotional.Continue reading “Hard NOC Life 231: ‘What If’ T’Challa was the Superior Star-Lord?”
Like nearly all viewers tuning in to this week’s episode of Disney’s animated reimagining What If…?, I was excited, anxious, and sad about seeing and hearing Chadwick Boseman on screen in his last project. The second episode, directed by Bryan Andrews and written by Matthew Chauncey, was a bittersweet exploration of a possible reality where T’Challa takes the role of Star-Lord instead of its original figure Peter Quill. While heartwarming and hilarious, the episode felt like a rush through a journey that could have potentially been explored further but was unfortunately cut short.Continue reading “Black Panther, Star-Lord, and the Great Chadwick Boseman”

Like most folk, I’m not too keen on reminders of my ever-increasing age. But this one, well, it’s not too bad of a milestone reminder.
Miles Morales, Marvel’s best Spider-Man, debuted nearly 10 years ago! You read that right, it’s been almost a decade since Miles inherited the Spidey title from Peter Parker and immediately one upped the kid from Queens.Continue reading “Marvel Celebrates Miles Morales’ 10th Anniversary with Variant Covers”

Kevin Feige, you sly dawg! Earlier today Marvel Studios dropped a very inspiring video commemorating our return to the movies. And as wonderful as it was to see footage from our favorite films within the MCU legacy, they rewarded everyone who watched it with a truckload of very cool updates about their slate coming between now and 2023. Before we break down what all of it means, watch the video first and get hyped:Continue reading “Marvel Studios Sneakily Drops a TON of Movie Announcements”
2019 has been full of terrible happenings and counter-happenings, but here we are now at the 50th San Diego Comic-Con! (Or #SDCC19, if you’re into the brevity thing.) 2017 is simply not here for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
First there was epic debacle known as #IronCyst.
Now the shark has substantially been jumped with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
I take super heroes and the media surrounding them entirely too seriously. This is why I get so worked up over comics and movies. It doesn’t take much for me to launch into an hours-long tirade over the finer points of caped continuity. However, there is some method to my fanboy madness.
The super powered stories we see played out on movie screens and comic book pages represent our modern mythology. And like the legends of old, these tales reflect the values that our society holds most dear.
Truth. Justice. The American Way.
Truth and justice are fairly universal in the super hero genre. But what exactly is the “American Way?” What are the values that we as Americans hold most dear? There are two characters that come instantly to mind when I hear those words, Superman and Captain America.
I’m doing track-by-track commentary on my new EP, Gifted Student. You should go grab the new EP at my bandcamp site.
Last day, last track. First of all, thanks to everyone who’s bought the album. I’m excited to perform about some of these songs live on tour, and by the shipping info, I am getting the CDs today, and will promptly start shipping them out this week.
Okay, so this took me much much much longer than I ever expected. I remember sitting at my desk at work and trying to think of something fun to draw.
When it hit me to have Megatron holding Soundwave as a cassette player listening to music; honestly, I was so proud of myself. I thought it was such a badass idea. [Ed. note: Having “Awesome Mix” on Laserbeak is a nice touch.]
Then I had to draw it. And holy cow, was this grueling!
In this episode, I introduce our new partnership with Midtown Comics and review the top 10 comic books of 2014 so far, which include Moon Knight, Ghost Rider, Cyclops, Batman Eternal, and many more. Continue reading Top 10 New Comic Books of 2014

If you haven’t seen Guardians of the Galaxy yet, you will. Director James Gunn and his cast — starring Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, and Bradley Cooper — have found that cross section of great action and effects, genuine mirth, and likability, that makes for a movie that kids will fondly remember into adulthood. What was once widely thought of as a long shot in Phase Two of Marvel Studios’ cinematic universe, Guardians could very well be the new Star Wars to this generation’s adolescent filmgoers. Halloween is going to see a lot of trees and raccoons running through the front yard for years to come. Toys will be flying off the shelves. And Marvel has $94 million reasons to celebrate its box office dominance.
Which is not to say that Guardians is the new sci-fi G.O.A.T., but rarely does a film so effectively appeal to both youth and adults. And, unlike Marvel’s previous films, young fans of Guardians get an all-new set of characters to love that don’t belong to their parents. Like Harry Potter before it, Guardians will belong uniquely to this generation of toy-buying, cosplaying kids.
Let us jump right in: I did not like Marvel’s new engineered “blockbuster,” Guardians of the Galaxy. I have expressed this in several meat and online circles, and I have been accused of ‘Marvel hate’, as if I hadn’t already spent hundreds of dollars on comics, films, and other Marvel branded merchandise. It sucks that when you can show your work as to why you dislike something, you get labeled a “hater.” I counter-argue that Marvel (in association with the Disney machine) knows they can troll the hell out of us and we’ll like it because of the Marvel brand — and most of ya’ll have fallen victim.
You might have noticed that there’s been an uptick in Guardians of the Galaxy coverage here at the NOC. That’s because after this weekend, the whole world will be intimately familiar with the exploits of Drax, Gamora, Groot, Rocket, and Star-Lord. And until recently, most of the movie-going audience would have reacted to those names much in the same way that Djimon Hounsou’s character does in the movie’s trailers.
I give my thoughts on Marvel Studios’ latest film Guardians of the Galaxy. Plus, as always, we review the characters and their costumes. Continue reading The Costumes of Guardians of the Galaxy
