Frank Grillo on Leading the ‘Creature Commandos’

It’s here, folks! This week, we’re finally getting the first official installment in James Gunn’s DCU, with DC Studios’ Creature Commandos. To celebrate we have a series of interviews dropping throughout the week from the latest band of badass misfits to come from Gunn’s insanity! And what better way to kick off Creature Commandos week than with the leader of Task Force M, Rick Flag Sr., himself, the one and only Frank Grillo!

Grillo is one of the finest character actors we have working today. Making his mark as Crossbones in the MCU, with projects like Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Civil War, he has also made an impact on Blumhouse with hits like The Purge franchise, and now is officially part of the new DC Universe. As Rick Flag Sr., Grillo’s character will be the father of Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flag Jr., who perished at the hands of Peacemaker in 2021’s The Suicide Squad. Make no mistake, though. Rick Flag Sr. is absolutely here to stay, and will be seen in various projects within the DCU.

His first appearance will be Creature Commandos. And we were so excited and fortunate enough to speak with him about what it means to be part of the new-and-improved DC Universe, and what it’s like to assemble the most twisted and unconventional superhero/monster team of all time. Check out our interview with him right here:

We have much more coming for you this week from Task Force M, including a conversation with showrunner Dean Lorey, and stars Steve Agee, Zoe Chao and Sean Gunn!

Creature Commandos kicks off the new DC Universe, with a two-episode premiere, December 5, only on Max!
