‘Superman’ Experience Adds Thrills To WB Studio Tour Offerings

Now open alongside the Warner Bros. Studio Tour is The Superman Experience, an immersive and action-packed side quest that’s heroic fun for the whole family.

The Nerds of Color recently got to check out the DC Universe interactive addition to the exciting experiences on the Warner Bros. lot for guests of the Studio Tour attractions, located in Burbank, California. Superman joins the iconic tram’s traverse through the sets where cinematic history was made or is in the making (with hit shows like The Pitt), walk-throughs for fans of Gilmore Girls and Friends, as well as exhibits that take you into the movies made on the lot.

Separate from the DC Universe exhibit that’s part of the tour and available as a standalone ticket, the Superman Experience brings the world of Metropolis to fans in a big way. Team up for immersive gameplay in environments enhanced by 3-D visuals and sensors that pick up on your movements as you get trained by Superman alongside Krypto at iconic locations like Kent Farm and Metropolis.

You’re called upon to flex those powers when an imminent threat arises to save the universe. What’s great about the tech is that you don’t need to wear any heavy gear or cover your eyes in a VR set, as the participatory entertainment takes place on practical sets augmented by screen visuals. The abilities you unlock are easy to learn, with energy pushes, super-strength, and others that are picked up on through the sensor tech, but be warned: it’s an arm-day workout. It’s a great way to burn off energy with kids who might otherwise be restless during the tour.

The Superman Experience is a blast, no matter how old you are. Together with Superman, Krypto, and Supergirl, you become an unstoppable force to take down Darkseid and his army of parademons. The animation combines the classic comics look with the DC Universe interpretations of the characters as seen in James Gunn’s new cinematic era. We loved getting to hang out with Krypto and seeing Supergirl make an appearance with her cousin Clark.

After you’re done saving the universe, you’ll find yourself in an Instagrammable Fortress of Solitude with more fun games and photo ops that make you feel like you’re in the new DCU. We loved using the beam laser to power up as Superman does in the recent film. He might even pop in to make sure you recover as you bathe in the light of a yellow sun.

There are also details about the ever-expanding DC universe of comics, cartoons, and films as depicted through panels of stunning displays in Kryptonian libraries. Also fun are stations to grab content like you’re soaring in flight, and an interactive moment with a Fortress robot similar to Four from the James Gunn film. Our only criticism is that each station offers to capture your photo op for about 20 bucks per station, which feels like a stiff price point — including all the stations would make more sense for that cost. But hey, at least you’re able to use your phone for your own photos.

For foodies, there’s currently a Fortress of Solitude bar with bites and drinks that will help you fuel up. We love a themed cocktail selection, and they’ve got plenty here as well as non-alcoholic beverages. Finally, it wouldn’t be a full attraction without a gift shop offering a Krypto plush fountain, comics, and all the latest Superman and Supergirl merch, in anticipation of the latter’s feature film set for release on June 26.
