For the last Hard NOC Life of 2018, Keith is joined by actor, writer, filmmaker, and professional nerd Jon Lee Brody to recap the year in superheroes in film and television.
This year seems to be the Year of the Tan, aka Lewis Tan.
After the internet went nuts over Tan’s portrayal as the drunk villain, Zhou Cheng, in last year’s Marvel’s Iron Fist, the 31-year-old actor gained a large following and many job offers including last week’s Deadpool 2 and a recurring role in AMC’s hit martial arts drama, Into the Badlands.Continue reading “Lewis Tan on Shatterstar, Representation, and How He Really Feels about Thirst Tweets”
The much-anticipated Deadpool sequel is sure to be full of what fans love: more action, more mutants, more pop culture references. And most importantly, more Dopinder, Deadpool’s taxi driving sidekick. Watch the opening of this trailer. It starts with Dopinder listening to his radio while Deadpool does his superhero duties. The cabby audiences saw for all of five minutes in the first Deadpool movie, who got crisp high fives instead of cold hard cash, is back. The man scorned by his lover who got his revenge, Deadpool-style, returns for a second chance to be a hero. We got a chance to talk to the actor who plays Dopinder — Karan Soni — and he gave us the inside scoop into playing Deadpool’s number one driver.
Deadpool 2 premieres this week and it has already been praised for its rated-R comedy and off-the-wall antics from actor and executive producer Ryan Reynolds. Another thing the film is getting praise for is the appearance of a queer couple in Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) and her girlfriend, Yukio, played by Japanese-Australian actress, Shioli Kutsuna.
The 25-year-old actress has starred in many Japanese films and television shows and made her first international debut in last year’s The Outsider. Now, Kutsuna is playing her most electrifying role yet — X-Men recuit, Yukio.
Sequels are extremely hard, especially when you have a completely different person in the director’s chair and the first film was a massive hit. The first Deadpool relied on Ryan Reynold’s charm, crude jokes, and kickass major fight-to-the-death scenes that earned the film’s R-rating. All of that paid off. Deadpool became the second highest grossing R-rated movie in U.S. history after Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ. And, if you’re wondering, yes, the sequel does mention this achievement.Continue reading “‘Deadpool 2’ Review: Sequel is More of the Same”
