Earlier this week, we were able to chat with the incredible Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid to discuss their wicked new film, Companion. The film, which comes out this Friday, succeeds as a sharp and hilarious takedown of toxic masculinity and abusive relationships. And while the story admittedly centers on Thatcher and her iconic character, Iris, it takes a terrific ensemble to help the movie reach the true levels of brilliance and comedy it ultimately achieves. Enter the terrific trio of Harvey Guillén, Lukas Gage, and Megan Suri
First off, if Mr. Guillén is reading this, I want to apologize profusely for completely butchering your last name in our conversation.
Second, the levels of comedy and chaos this trio’s energy brings to the film truly contributes to its pitch perfect/pitch black twisted sense of humor. It would truly be an entirely different film without their characters; definitely an inferior one. Because as it turns out, interestingly enough, their characters and the layers that come from their relationships to one another truly build on the film’s themes of toxic relationships and the tragedy that follows from them.
We were able to sit down with Guillén, Gage, and Suri to discuss and deconstruct their terrific contributions to the film overall. Here’s what they had to say:
Companion comes to us from writer/director Drew Hancock, and producer Zach Cregger (Barbarian). So anticipate twists and turns, as well as a sly and wicked sense of humor. This was truly one of the best surprises I’ve seen in theaters in recent years, and I simply can’t wait for folks to finally see this incredibly clever and twisted anti-love story!
Companion hits theaters this Friday, January 31st.
If you haven’t checked it out yet, here’s our interview with Thatcher and Quaid! And stay tuned for our conversation with Hancock coming later this week!
