‘Companion’ Director Drew Hancock Discusses Directing His First Film

The smart, hilarious, sci-fi satire Companion is officially hitting theaters this week! And this one is hands down one of the best surprises I’ve seen in theaters in recent years. To celebrate we were given the tremendous opportunity to discuss the film with its stars, Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid, as well as cast members Harvey Guillén, Lukas Gage, and Megan Suri. Now today, we’re pleased to bring you all our conversation with the writer and director of the film, himself, Drew Hancock!

‘Companion’ Stars Harvey Guillén, Lukas Gage, and Megan Suri Tackle Twisted Relationships

Earlier this week, we were able to chat with the incredible Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid to discuss their wicked new film, Companion. The film, which comes out this Friday, succeeds as a sharp and hilarious takedown of toxic masculinity and abusive relationships. And while the story admittedly centers on Thatcher and her iconic character, Iris, it takes a terrific ensemble to help the movie reach the true levels of brilliance and comedy it ultimately achieves. Enter the terrific trio of Harvey Guillén, Lukas Gage, and Megan Suri

The Sensational Sophie Thatcher and Jack Quaid Converse about ‘Companion’

Valentine’s Day kicks off early this year with the best kind of rom-com coming out this Friday: a bloody horror comedy. The genre-defying, brilliant and twisted Companion, which I loved, is finally hitting theaters! Anchoring this terrific takedown of toxic masculinity and abusive relationships are the charming Jack Quaid, and one of the best breakout actresses working in the industry today, the sensational Sophie Thatcher!

NOC Review: You’re Not Prepared for ‘Companion’

I know it’s been less than a month since 2025 started, but I’m calling it right now: Companion is already going to be one of my favorite movies this year. As of writing this, I’ve had the pleasure of seeing this one twice already, and I honestly feel like I could see it many more times and still enjoy every minute of it. It’s brilliant, twisted and wickedly funny.

Nerd Poppin’ Throughout the SAG-AFTRA Strike

As of Thursday November 9, the SAG-AFTRA strike came to an end following an approval of a tentative agreement with the AMPTP. Having lasted a whopping 118 days, it is the longest actors strike against the film and TV studios in Hollywood history.

NOC Review: ‘Blue Beetle’ is Genuinely One of DC’s Finest Films

Yeah. You read that right. And look, I know the bar seems pretty low. When your past three releases include Black Adam, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and The Flash — one of which was sold as allegedly “one of the best superhero movies of all time,” when it actually was a complete mess of obnoxiousness and bad VFX — it may not seem like high praise. But genuinely and truly, Blue Beetle is actually a really terrific film.

‘Blue Beetle’ Director Angel Manuel Soto Unleashes the First Major Latino Superhero

The Blue Beetle is landing on August 18! And while many out there may be unfamiliar with the character, let me just say, Jaime Reyes is awesome! This is a movie worth celebrating, not just because it represents the first major Latino superhero movie to hit theaters, but because it’s actually really very good, and one of the best cinematic surprises of the year! And we at The Nerds of Color were lucky enough to sit down with the clever maestro behind the film, director Angel Manuel Soto!

New Trailer for ‘Blue Beetle’ Has Landed

It’s no secret that DC has had a rough year so far, with Shazam: Fury of the Gods and The Flash seemingly underperforming. But based on the trailer for Blue Beetle, I think all that is about to change. Because wow! It looks so fun!

It’s Time for the World to Meet ‘Blue Beetle’

It’s been 15 years since Iron Man revolutionized the way comic book movies have been seen in Hollywood. Since then, we’ve seen the popular genre expand in ways that really foster representation and the idea of stories being told from all points of view, from Black Panther to Shang-Chi and of course Wonder Woman. And yet, there still hasn’t been a single big-budget superhero film told from the eyes and perspective of a Latino protagonist. Until now. Get ready to meet Blue Beetle.

NOC Review: ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish’ is the Best ‘Shrek’ Movie in Years

Yes, it’s true that Dreamworks Animation has had to live in the shadow of Pixar Animation studios for some time. But I truly think audiences tend to underestimate them. The first two Shrek movies are terrific. The entire How to Train Your Dragon trilogy is a masterpiece (one of the few film trilogies ever where all entries are fantastic). And even the Kung Fu Panda and Madagascar franchises are well done. It seems the impact great filmmakers like Guillermo Del Toro and Chris Sanders & Dean DeBlois has indeed (much like the fearless feline protagonist of the film this review is for) left an indelible mark. Because case in point, Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is surprisingly quite good.
