There are few producers or filmmakers in Hollywood as prolific as the incredible James Wan. The man who brought us Saw, Insidious, and of course The Conjuring Universe is hands down one of the most successful names in horror and action that we’ve seen in the past two decades. Now he’s bringing his iconic Conjuring franchise to a close with The Conjuring: Last Rites. And we were lucky enough to join other members of the press in a roundtable discussion with the Atomic Monster mastermind on the final chapter of The Conjuring Universe.

Ending ‘The Conjuring’ with ‘Last Rites’ Director Michael Chaves

With The Conjuring: Last Rites, Michael Chaves will officially be the director who has helmed the most films within The Conjuring Universe. Coming on to the franchise with 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and taking on the second installment of The Nun, Chaves has officially put his stamp on the horror universe James Wan built. Now once more, he’s teaming up with Wan to bring the legendary horror universe to an end with The Conjuring: Last Rites.

Bringing ‘Annabelle’ Home with Director Gary Dauberman

It’s been a long journey for America’s favorite possessed doll, but after 6 years and 5 movies, Annabelle is finally coming home, courtesy of director Gary Dauberman. While the rise and creation of The Conjuring universe has been rightfully attributed to mastermind, James Wan, arguably Dauberman’s work has had just as great an impact on this franchise. Dauberman’s first script in this universe was the first Annabelle, and he’s stayed with the franchise ever since, penning Annabelle: CreationThe Nun, and now Annabelle Comes Home.

However unlike his previous experiences, it’s now his turn to take the reins, as Annabelle Comes Home serves as Dauberman’s directorial debut.  In honor of the highly anticipated horror sequel’s release this week, the Nerds of Color had a chance to sit with Dauberman, and discuss the process of directing, conjuring up scares, and the notion of sisterhood within the horror genre.
