LeVar Burton Promotes Free Comic Book Day

If you haven’t heard, this Saturday, May 3 — at comic shops and libraries across the country — is Free Comic Book Day, that annual celebration of the four-color floppy. As the name implies, it’s a day in which comic shops give away specially marked comics to readers of all ages.

Conceived by comic retailer Joe Field and coordinated by industry giant Diamond Comic Distributors, FCBD — as it is affectionately acronymed — has been around since 2002 and occurs every first Saturday in May. The Middle of Nowhere Comic Store Tour

Next week, our man Adam WarRock will be hitting the road once again. This time, he’s got a brand new album to promote and a spiffy profile in the UK newspaper The Guardian to boot. Adam won’t be alone on the tour either, as he will be joined by a few friends (some of which might be familiar to you readers of The Nerds of Color).

After a brief swing through the South (namely, Louisiana and Texas) to close out November, WarRock will hit up the Midwest with our very own Tribe One through out December!

Look for more formal announcements from Adam later in the week. In the meantime, check out the current list of dates and venues after the jump. And go order The Middle of Nowhere if you haven’t already!

Your Pre-NYCC Pull List

It’s Wednesday again! But not just any ordinary Wednesday. For those of us on the east coast, today marks the calm before the storm that is New York Comic-Con! Speaking of which, be sure to swing by Booth #2010 and visit me and my SIUniverse buddies at the Epic Proportions mega-booth. We’ll have signings by Greg Pak, Bernard Chang, Cliff Chiang, Larry Hama and Walt Simonson all weekend.

Now that that’s out of the way, keep reading to see what are some books that I think folks will be buzzing about on the con floor. And find a comic shop near you, so you don’t miss out on the conversation.
