Creating an influential and resonating documentary that digs into the heart of cosplay and Geekdom from a Black perspective as her first film wasn’t exactly Cheyenne Ewulu’s plan to begin with. What was supposed to be more of an artistic catharsis to express the frustration with racism and lack of awareness she noticed in the community she called home, became a beacon for Black cosplayers to find hope and admiration in their work.

‘Shades of Cosplay’ Makes Me Want to Cosplay

Cosplay is an enigma to me. The act of dressing up as one’s favorite character to an almost identical degree shows a mastery of craft-making, make-up, and acting that is rarely discussed in other mediums. Being a fan of a show or a character is no longer a passive experience when you cosplay, it becomes an active response to the work that inspires you.

Brazil Games Showing up in Style to This Year’s Game Developers Conference with 22 Studios

This year’s Game Developers Conference is rounding the corner fairly quickly and with that reality, Brazil Games, the Brazilian Games Export Program, which is carried out by Abragames (Brazilian Games Companies Association) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency, Apex-Brasil, recently revealed the 22 studios that will showcase at this year’s GDC. Flux Games, Kokku, Manifesto, Double Dash Studios, and many more will be present at the event and Brazil Games wants you to know that they came to play.

Fox premiered The Big Leap at this year’s ATX Television Festival! The show tells a modern tale about second chances, chasing your dreams, and taking back what’s yours. This virtual screening and panel, which The Nerds of Color attended, showed an early look at the pilot episode and a Q&A with cast and creatives. The panelists included Liz Heldens (Creator/EP), Jason Winer (EP/Director), Scott Foley, Teri Polo, Ser’Darius Blain, and Simone Rescasner.

E3’s Media Week Includes Lackluster Perks, Buggy Features, and Bizarre Avatar Creator

Since its inception, the Electronic Entertainment Experience (or E3 expo) has been the number one hotspot for fans and gaming journalists alike to get a sneak peak at the biggest and most anticipated titles to come to the gaming world. As of late, however, the once celebrated video game and tech expo has been against the ropes, fighting the wavering reality of its relevance amid a changing landscape that saw the announcement of the PlayStation 5 in an interview with Wired magazine. In 2019, the expo was rocked by Sony’s withdrawal from the convention and before that, faced increased criticism for “over hyping” titles that would ultimately bust (i.e. Anthem).

Having a Ball At The 2017 Anime Expo Masquerade

Following the heels of our Anime Expo intro article this year, our first main event we went to last night was the Masquerade, a cosplay and performance competition that has been running for over 20 years. This year’s event was MCed by Ezra Weisz and without a doubt, I can already say that this is perhaps the best masquerade I’ve gone to, solely from the strength of the MC himself.
