In the excitement of everything going on with Marvel Studios, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Disney Animation, and more, it was easy to miss one of the biggest pieces of news to come out of the D23 Expo: The immediate cancellation of the Simpsons Cinematic Universe! All kidding aside, The Simpsons returned to D23 and they featured a nice, casual conversation with the cast, creatives, and the fans.

D23Expo: Star Wars Animation Expands with ‘Tales of the Jedi’

Dave Filoni brought his love for all things Star Wars to the Clone Wars animated series. While he has made the jump to live-action, directing a handful of episodes of The Mandolorian, he found his way back to animation with shows like The Bad Batch — a series that focuses on a team of specialized clones who go on black-ops missions that no other Clone dare go on. But just in time for the D23 Expo celebration, Filoni announced a brand new series of shorts called Tales of the Jedi. And he revealed a first look at the upcoming six-episode series.

D23Expo: ‘Peter Pan and Wendy’ First Look Takes Flight

David Lowery wowed us with these beautifully composed shots of the north western portion of North America in his live-action adaptation of Pete’s Dragon. But that film put a different twist on a familiar story. One that was quite refreshing. But it looks like his take on Peter Pan & Wendy intends to stay faithful to the original, while also adding some new content by expanding on the Peter Pan and Captain Hook dynamic.

D23Expo: Black Panther and Captain America Team-Up Game Announced

The Middle Geeks Episode 4: ‘Capernaum’ and Facing Hard Truths

In the latest installment of The Middle Geeks, we review Nadine Labaki’s 2018 heartbreaking masterpiece, Capernaum. Mae and Swara reflect on the state of conflict in the region, how institutions fail children, immigrants, and the most vulnerable, and how generational trauma affects us as Middle Eastern-Americans. It’s a hard but necessary set of discussions to have. On much lighter topics, we discuss the slew of news from D23, and express our dismay at a change in DC’s Legends of Tomorrow‘s upcoming season.

Everything We Learned from the D23 Expo Disney Studios Presentation

The second day of D23 Expo kicked off with the Disney Studios presentation with new films coming from the studios of Disney, Walt Disney Animation, Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm. Alan Horn, chief creative officer and co-chairman of Walt Disney Studios hosted the showcase and brought on Lucasfilm’s Kathleen Kennedy, Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige, Disney live action’s Sean Bailey, Pixar’s Pete Docter, and Disney Animation’s Jennifer Lee.

D23 Expo: Things We Learned from the Disney+ Panel

Disney+ made its D23 Expo debut this afternoon with a presentation filled with several classic movies and TV series and new original content for their new streaming service at the Anaheim Convention Center. The showcase was met with cheers as actress Yvette Nicole Brown, who stars in Disney+ live action film Lady and the Tramp, hosted presentation which included new series and films from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic.
