DC Can Be Your Heroes, Baby

With apologies to Enrique Iglesias and David Bowie, DC and Warner Bros. just dropped a one-minute teaser showcasing its slate of live action films coming only to theaters in 2022 (the DC Super-Pets were conspicuously absent from the video). While a lot of the footage is recycled from their DC FanDome presentation, there was a lot that was new too.

Most of the new footage belonged to Dwayne Johnson’s long-gestating Black Adam. Not only did we get to see awesome first looks at the Justice Society — including Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone — but we actually got more dialogue and story beats than we got from the initial FanDome teaser.

Mainly, it seems a good portion of the movie will center around Fate and the JSA trying to recruit Adam to stop an even bigger threat.

While this isn’t the first time we’ve seen Hawkman or Dr. Fate in live action, we sure have come a long way since Smallville!

In addition to these fresh looks from Black Adam, we also got a tiny bit of never-before-seen footage from OG DCEU heroes The Flash and Aquaman. Most of the Flash footage comes from FanDome, but we do get a cool closeup of Barry in his revamped suit.

Meanwhile, our first glimpses of Momoa in the stealth Aquasuit and sitting on the throne of Atlantis were brand new since we didn’t really get any Lost Kingdom footage during FanDome.

More immediately, The Batman portions didn’t bring anything new to the table, but with so many TV spots and clips floating around, it’s just as well. Besides, we only have a less than a month left before we can return to Gotham.

Hopefully, dropping this teaser now is a precursor to more substantive trailers for the non-Batman films soon.

The Batman is in theaters on March 4. Black Adam is set for a July 29 premiere, while The Flash arrives on November 4, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is slated for December 16.
