Southern Fried Asian returns for a special AAPI Heritage Month episode featuring Kentucky-based blues musician, Nat Myers! He and Keith discuss the events that inspired his forthcoming album, Yellow Peril and his connection to Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa.
At this point, I don’t have to preface this with any sort of message warning people about the Fast and Furious franchise being incredibly stupid. I did this forF9in 2021. And it should be obvious we’re getting more of the same from Fast X. These aren’t good movies. But why in the world would you go in expecting them to be? You go to a Fast and Furious movie looking for guilty-pleasure fun. And honestly, for better or worse, they still deliver on that lowest common denominator sense of entertainment.
This Friday marks the beginning of the end for the Fast and Furious franchise! And we’ll have a review of Fast X for everyone coming later this week. But before we begin the countdown, Universal has just dropped a final trailer for the latest installment in the “family” franchise today. Check it out right here!
Well, so much for that DC Films sizzle reel that premiered during the Super Bowl and was attached to each reel of The Batman over the weekend. After promising all the heroes we were going to see in 2022, it seems it was all a beautiful lie (sorry, Batfleck).
Keith, Dominic, and Britney welcome special guest host DJ Benhameen of the For All Nerds podcast to break down the Peacemaker finale, discuss 50 Cent’s foray into superhero movies, and reflect on the four-year anniversary of Black Panther.
With apologies to Enrique Iglesias and David Bowie, DC and Warner Bros. just dropped a one-minute teaser showcasing its slate of live action films coming only to theaters in 2022 (the DC Super-Pets were conspicuously absent from the video). While a lot of the footage is recycled from their DC FanDome presentation, there was a lot that was new too.
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune adaptation, based on a book that was explicitly and heavily influenced by Middle East and North African (MENA) and Islamic cultures, is out, and we are joined by our friends and fellow MENA critics Hanna Flint and Roxana Hadadi to review it.
Tonight’s the night! It’s been a long road for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, and the country is finally going to see his faithful, epic, visually stunning adaptation hit the big screen, in the way it was meant to be seen! And to celebrate, we are finally going to reveal that were given the very exciting opportunity to speak with Dune star, Chang Chen, who plays the complex Doctor Yueh.
Your ship to Arrakis is almost here folks! Dune is at long last finally hitting theaters this weekend! And when you think about the epic, monumental scale of the film, and the hauntingly beautiful but harsh environments that create the desert planet of Dune, only one thing comes to mind — sandcastles in Texas!
Southern Fried Asian is back for a brand new season! For this episode, we’re rebranding as Southern Fried AsianPolynesian because our special guest is none other than (animated) Aquaman himself, Cooper Andrews!
This Thursday, HBO Max will begin streaming the first chapter of Aquaman: King of Atlantis, a special three-part animated event series. The show’s star, Cooper Andrews, recently stopped by to chat about his love of DC Comics and how blown away he is to be part of the DC pantheon — first in Shazam and now as Aquaman.
The newest trailer for DC FanDome dropped today and with it came even more hype to get us ready for next Saturday’s event. What stood out for me though were the brief shots of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Gotham Knights that teased some new footage to come at FanDome.
The countdown for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune is on! And though much of the world has seen the film already, a few territories are still waiting in anticipation for their journey to Arrakis. We in the US are still, of course, waiting for the film to hit theaters on October 22. However, Japan only has 11 days more, since the film hits cinemas there on October 15!
It’s coming folks! We are just about two weeks away from year two of DC FanDome. And as is tradition with most cons, the closer we get, the more is revealed! And today the good folks at DC have debuted their all-star lineup of talent that will be making appearances at the highly anticipated virtual con! Take a look here:
Sometimes there are movies that just come into your life, and live rent free in your brain days or weeks after you’ve seen them. That’s how you know you generally love them, and they make a profound impact on you. Either you replay or relive scenes that made you smile or blew you away. Furthermore, when you see them again, you still smile, or laugh, or get goosebumps. The Matrix in 1999. The Fellowship of the Ring in 2001. The Dark Knight in 2008. The Avengers in 2012 and Endgame in 2019.
Recently, members of the press, including The Nerds of Color, were given the privilege of speaking directly with the visionary director behind Dune. During the conversation, Villeneuve was asked about Dune being an example of the White Savior trope, among many other questions, and he wanted to make it specifically clear that while many have taken the surface-level concept of the story and expressed condemnations for it based on that, interpreting the story as such would actually be missing the true point of it.
Suit up, DC Fans! Because on Saturday, October 16, you’re needed back at the DC FanDome!
That’s right! After the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural virtual event, DC announced earlier this year that DC FanDome would be returning. And as of this morning, we are finally getting an official press release, and an announcement regarding the programming we can expect from this year’s event. And it’s looking to be just as epic the second time around.
