‘Street Fighter’ Sizzles with Special Look
Paramount’s reimagining of Street Fighter boasts a stacked cast portraying some of the game’s most popular characters. In a newly released special look, we get to see Blanka (Jason Momoa) fight against Ryu (Andrew Koji) in an electrifying brawl.
Directed by Kitao Sakurai, the upcoming film is set in 1993, where Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits various street fighters to participate in the World Warrior Tournament. We got an advanced look at the trailer during CinemaCon this past April, and now have a special peek at one of the fight sequences within the movie. Take a look below:
In this scene, we catch a quick glimpse of M. Bison (David Dastmalchian) seemingly forcing Ryu to put his powers to the test with his line: “Ryu, I know what you’re capable of. Show me.” We then see Momoa’s Blanka make an entrance, whose specialty is generating electricity to attack his opponents. Both go toe-to-toe up until the end, when Ryu generates powers of his own (a “ki blast”) to a seemingly surprised Blanka.
While the unfolding scene certainly looks action-packed, it’s unclear just how much of a presence Blanka will be given within the film. Based on his introduction in this scene, it would almost appear that he’s an antagonist. However, his storyline across the Street Fighter lore depicts him as a good guy, so he may eventually support Ryu’s journey to the tournament as an ally.
In addition to Momoa, Koji, Dastmalchian, and Liang, the film stars Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoai as Akuma, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, and Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson as Balrog.

Street Fighter roundhouse kicks its way into theaters on October 16.
