‘Pokémon’ Composer Ed Goldfarb on Musicality and Inspiration

After a night of Pokémon-infused music celebration, composer Ed Goldfarb sat with The Nerds of Color to talk about his composing process and how he draws inspiration for his work.

Thirty years of Pokémon music were celebrated last week at the Grammy Museum in DTLA. Composer Ed Goldfarb and voice actor/vocalist Haven Paschall led us through the three-decade journey of how its music has evolved, while also performing several hit songs from the series. To date, Goldfarb has scored over 600 episodes of Pokémon, a massive feat that highlights his ability to transform scenes into extraordinary escapes for fans like myself.

We had the chance to speak with Goldfarb about his artistic process as a composer, what his inspirations are, and who his favorite Pokémon is. Watch our full conversation below:
