Hot on the heels of the best movie of the year, Dune: Part Two, Legendary and WB are wasting no time at all expanding on the Dune saga! In fact, to the surprise of everyone, a new series for Max will be arriving this fall! And we got a first look at the trailer for Dune: Prophecy today.
Set 1,000 years before the time of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy tells the story of the origins of the Bene Gesserit, which are of course the race of powerful beings that Lady Jessica (and Paul) would eventually belong to. The series is stacked with talent including terrific actors like Emily Watson (Punch Drunk Love), Travis Fimmel (Warcraft, Vikings), and Olivia Williams (Rushmore, The Nevers).
Take a look at the exciting and stellar looking new trailer right here:
I’ll admit, the show’s development has seen a rocky process thus far. It was originally going to be ran by film screenwriter, Jon Spaihts, and Dana Calvo (Good Girls Revolt). But they were eventually replaced by Medium writer Diane Ademu-John, who also eventually went on to leave the project. The series is now being veteran TV writer Alison Schapker, whose credits include The Flash, Fringe, and Alias, as well as being the co-showrunner on Altered Carbon.
What will this mean for the quality of the series, particularly in the wake of the phenomenal success of the last film’s release? Time will tell. But in the meantime, they’ve put together a stellar trailer. And any further mythos we can get about the Bene Gesserit and the universe Herbert put together is always welcome!
Dune: Prophecy will be hitting Max late this fall!
