The Future is Here: Disney Announces Their Upcoming Marvel Studios Slate

OH MY GOD! IT’S LIKE CHRISTMAS!

I’m so so happy right now, folks. You have no idea! A full year without a Comic Con or D23 (and a rough year for Disney too), and we have been kept in the dark without word of any upcoming Marvel Studios projects (except Spider-Man 3, because every day there’s Spider-Man 3 news so…). But not today!

On December 10, Disney unveiled a full slate of projects we fans have been foaming at the mouth for, from Lucasfilm, Disney Animation, Pixar, and Walt Disney Pictures! And let me tell you they saved the best for last. Kevin Feige presented the entire slate of Marvel Cinematic Universe projects coming in the next three years, varying from theatrical releases to Disney+ series. And if you’ve ever been in a room with that man (or a virtual conference in this case), you know…. Feige. Brings. It!

Feige not only announced a slew of new projects, but brought such amazing looking footage for several of the projects that will be debuting soon! Oh what a sweet gift it was! But don’t take my word for it. Here’s a quick rundown of all the upcoming projects the Marvel Studios wizard unveiled today, along with the official statements of each from Marvel themselves:

WANDAVISION — JANUARY 2020

A visionary new age of television begins. Marvel Studios’ WandaVision, an original series, starts streaming January 15 on Disney+.

THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER — MARCH 2021

“The legacy of that shield is complicated.” Marvel Studios’ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, an original deries, starts streaming March 19 on Disney+.

Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Natasha must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.

SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS — JULY 9, 2021

Feige shared some new information about Shang-Chi, including the full cast for Marvel Studios’ first Asian-led superhero movie, and sang his praises for lead, Simu Liu.

WHAT IF — SUMMER 2021

When I was a kid, there were these really interesting comics that would take scenarios from the Marvel Universe and give you elseworlds-esque stories that would explore what it would be like if they’d occurred differently. Well now the MCU is getting the What If treatment in an animated series on Disney+, coming Summer 2021.

ETERNALS — NOVEMBER 2021

Marvel Studios’ Eternals features an exciting new team of Super Heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years. Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind’s most ancient enemy, the Deviants.

HAWKEYE — FALL 2021

Original Avenger Jeremy Renner returns to star as Hawkeye, teaming up with well-known archer from Marvel comics, Kate Bishop played by the amazing Hailee Steinfeld.

Additional cast members include Vera Farmiga, Fra Fee, and newcomer Alaqua Cox as Maya Lopez with episodes directed by Rhys Thomas and directing duo Bert and Bertie.

Hawkeye, an original series, is coming to Disney+ in 2021.

MS. MARVEL — 2021

Ms. Marvel, a newer character to Marvel Comics, has grabbed the world’s imagination and Marvel was excited to officially announce Iman Vellani will be playing Kamala Khan.

Ms. Marvel, an original series from Marvel Studios, is coming late 2021 to Disney+.

DOCTOR STRANGE: IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS — MARCH 25, 2022

Feige announced that WandaVision would tie into Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness, hitting theaters March 2022. He revealed Benedict Cumberbatch, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and  Chiwetel Ejiofor would be returning, but joining them and Elizabeth Olsen would be newcomer Xochitl Gomez, who will be playing (I’m so excited for this) Miss America herself, America Chavez!

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER — MAY 6, 2022

The Dark Knight is coming to the MCU as Academy Award-winning actor Christian Bale will join the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder as the villain Gorr the God Butcher. In theaters May 6, 2022.

BLACK PANTHER II — JULY 8, 2022

Feige officially announced that in honor of the legacy set by Chadwick Boseman, that T’Challa would not be recast. He’s working with Ryan Coogler on the script now, and the film will be debuting July 2022.

CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 — NOVEMBER 11, 2022

Feige announced that Ms. Marvel star, Iman Vellani, and WandaVision star, Teyonah Parris, would be joining the cast of Captain Marvel 2, under director Nia DaCosta, showcasing the interconnectivity of the Disney+ series with the MCU film slate!

Among the rest of the slate, Feige announced many other undated releases, including some that were never previously announced prior to the Disney Investors Presentation. Here’s a breakdown of those exciting titles, along with Marvel’s official statements:

SHE-HULK

She-Hulk arrives to the MCU! Tatiana Maslany will portray Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk and Tim Roth returns as the Abomination and Hulk himself, Mark Ruffalo, will appear in the series directed by Kat Coiro and Anu Valia, with Jessica Gao as head writer.

MOON KNIGHT

Moon Knight, an Original Series about a complex vigilante, is coming to Disney+. Feige was mum about the details, including casting, but mentioned that it would be diving into Egyptian mythology and Marc Spector’s dissociative identity disorder.

SECRET INVASION

Samuel L. Jackson is back as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn from Captain Marvel returns as the Skrull Talos in Marvel Studios’ Original Series Secret Invasion. This will be an MCU adaptation of a very recent, popular storyline! The Skrulls are among us!

IRONHEART

Dominique Thorne is genius inventor Riri Williams in Ironheart, an Original Series about the creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man. I’ve loved Riri ever since she came into the scene! Glad we’re going to see her soon!

ARMOR WARS

Don Cheadle returns as James Rhodes aka War Machine (aka Rhodey) in Armor Wars, an Original Series coming to Disney+. A classic Marvel story about Tony Stark’s worst fear coming true: what happens when his tech falls into the wrong hands?

THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY HOLIDAY SPECIAL

The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special. James Gunn is back to write and direct.

The Original Special is coming to Disney+ in 2022.

I AM GROOT

Everyone’s favorite little tree, Baby Groot, will star in I Am Groot, a series of shorts on Disney+ featuring several new and unusual characters.

BLADE

Though we heard about it last year at Comic Con, Feige made a brief reminder that we can expect The Daywalker to return, played by two-time Oscar winner Mahershala Ali, in the near future!

ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA

Peyton Reed is back to direct the third Ant-Man film, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer all return. Kathryn Newton joins the cast as Cassie Lang alongside Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror.

And finally, the biggest news of all — Feige officially announced…

THE FANTASTIC FOUR!

Zero details have been revealed but we know it’s finally in good hands, and that’s enough for me!

Phew! I’m both pumped up and exhausted at the same time! And I haven’t felt that since Comic-Con last year!

Get psyched folks!! And Make Mine Marvel! Excelsior!!!
