‘Baymax!’ Trailer Gives a Helping Healthcare Hand in San Fransokyo

It’s been nearly eight years since the cuddly and lovable Baymax (Scott Adist) arrived to save the day and heal an emotionally devastated Hiro Hamada (Ryan Potter) in Big Hero 6. Now the giant walking marshmallow healthcare robot is ready to leave his tiny little bubble and do want he was programed to do: help others in the new forthcoming Disney+ animated series, Baymax!

To celebrate National Streaming Day — which is a completely real day, I swear — Disney+ has released a trailer, and a few images for Baymax! which you can check out below.

Released in 2014, Big Hero 6 followed Robotics prodigy Hiro lives in the city of San Fransokyo — an amalgamation of San Francisco and Tokyo — Next to his older brother, Tadashi, Hiro’s closest companion is Baymax, a robot whose sole purpose is to take care of people. When a devastating turn of events throws Hiro into the middle of a dangerous plot, he transforms himself and Baymax into a superhero duo to solve the case and save the day.

Now Baymax! follows the titular healthcare robot has he provides the citizens of San Fransokyo, and maybe a few cats, with the healthcare they deserve, whether they want it or not. As Hiro points out, “a hero’s job is never done.” And while we will see him tend to those injuries, the trailer also hints at some of the action and comedy that we can expect to see in the six-episode series. In one, we see Baymax trying to stop a car that’s dangerously speeding through the streets of San Fransokyo. In another clip, we see try to reach out and help a cat, who isn’t interested in the help and instead goes on anime-style slash attack that severely punctures the robot’s rubber suit. And we all know what happens when Baymax leaks air.

Here’s the brief plot synopsis for Baymax!

The all-new series of healthcare capers returns to the fantastical city of San Fransokyo where the affable, inflatable, inimitable healthcare companion robot, Baymax, sets out to do what he was programmed to do: help others

Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Baymax!” returns to the fantastical city of San Fransokyo where the affable, inflatable, inimitable healthcare companion robot, Baymax (voice of Scott Adsit), sets out to do what he was programmed to do: help others. The series of healthcare capers introduces extraordinary characters who need Baymax’s signature approach to healing in more ways than they realize. In episode 2, Baymax urges a reluctant Kiko (voice of Emily Kuroda) to ease her aches and face her fears. “Baymax!” streams exclusively on Disney+ starting June 29, 2022. © 2022 Disney. “I thought it would be fun to do a Disney+ series with Baymax interacting with normal folks,” said series creator Don Hall, who helmed the 2014 Oscar®-winning film. “In each of our six episodes, Baymax just wants to help someone — and a lot of times they don’t want to be helped. He sets out to fix a physical issue that he’s identified, and in the process, gets to a deeper, more emotional place and can be almost transformative in that role.”

Potter and Adist reprise their voices roles as Hiro and Baymax, respectively. Maya Rudolph also returns as Aunt Cass. They will be joined by newcomers Emily Kuroda, Lilimar, Zeno Robinson, and Jaboukie Young-White.

Baymax! is produced by Roy Conli and Bradford Simonsen. The series’ episodes are directed by Dean Wellins (Eps 1, 2, 6), Lissa Treiman (Ep 3), Dan Abraham (Ep 4) and Mark Kennedy (Ep 5). Screenwriter is Cirocco Dunlap.

Baymax! debuts exclusively on Disney+ on June 27, 2022.
