‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Director Deborah Chow on the ‘Star Wars’ Legacy and Toshiro Mifune

In one week, on the 45th anniversary of the original Star Wars, Disney+ will be premiering the first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Filling in the gap between Episodes III and IV, Obi-Wan Kenobi brings back Prequel era stars Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen to reprise the roles of Kenobi and Darth Vader, respectively.

I had the great honor to speak with the series’ director, Deborah Chow, about the pressure of telling a compelling story in such a crucial point in the saga’s history and why it was important to bring Christensen back to the franchise.

Also, since Star Wars month just so happens to coincide with AAPI Heritage Month, the director and I also pondered one of the greatest What Ifs in cinema history: Toshiro Mifune as Obi-Wan Kenobi.
