‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ is a Technical Marvel Trapped in a Familiar Story

Every trip to Pandora brings in a visually stunning new adventure and family drama with Jake Sully and Neytiri. The new Avatar: Fire and Ash doubles down on both, throwing the family into a firestorm of grief, resilience, and jaw-dropping world-building that keeps expanding Pandora in bold, unexpected directions. Unfortunately, despite being epic in scale and scope, the film’s lack of a compelling story frustrates, and its many setups lead to surprisingly few satisfying payoff.

NOC Review: ‘Freakier Friday’ is a Fun, Chaotic Nostalgic Charmer

From The Parent Trap to Mean Girls, Lindsay Lohan’s dominance in pop culture through the late ‘90s/early ‘00s was inescapable. And with good cause, because some of those films went on to become true classics, with many getting a second life with either musical remakes (Mean Girls) or in the case of Freaky Friday, legacy sequels. Surprisingly, that’s actually a great thing, because with Freakier Friday, the movies aren’t the only things getting a second life. Welcome back, Lohan!

NOC Review: ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ — The ‘Wolverine’ Review

Nearly 15 years after Ryan Reynolds debuted as Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the Merc with the Mouth finds himself at a new point in his franchise and a low point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Despite the few missteps Marvel Studios has had in the past trying to convince us that the currently disappointing Multiverse Saga is the next superhero epic, something like a Deadpool & Wolverine could be the hilariously merciful and bloody wake-up call that could reinvigorate fans’ enthusiasm for these films. And the highly anticipated sequel gets some help from Hugh Jackman reprising his role as Wolverine.

Jon Favreau’s photorealistic animated retelling of of 1994’s The Lion King was one of the highest grossing Disney live-action adaptations of an animated classic.
