The Missing Episodes of Disney’s ‘Andi Mack’

Okay, so… someone’s got to say something.

It’s been three months since the launch of the Disney+ streaming service. Since then, viewers have fallen in love with Baby Yoda on The Mandalorian, shed tears over the new shorts released from Pixar’s SparkShorts program, and of course, revisited and binge watched old favorites.

However, there have been some cases where a number of the many TV series available on there have experienced glitches; where either episodes are out of order or are missing altogether. One show that has been experiencing the latter and remains unfixed to this day is the Disney Channel Original Series, Andi Mack.

From 2017-2019, viewers got to watch middle schooler Andi Mack (Peyton Elizabeth Lee) and her friends and family as they navigate everyday life. For three whole seasons, the show broke a lot of ground for the Disney Channel in multiple ways. It is the first show centered on an Asian American family since American Dragon: Jake Long (Lilan Bowden and Lauren Tom played Andi’s mother and grandmother respectively), the title character finds out she was born as a result of a teen pregnancy, and one of the other main characters, Cyrus Goodman (Joshua Rush), brought the Disney Channel to the 21st century as its first openly gay character.

As of currently (and much like the first day of Disney+), while all of the second and third seasons of Andi Mack are available for viewing, all that’s available of the first season are its last two episodes. Chief Editor Keith Chow mentioned the missing episodes in a previous episode of Hard NOC Life, and jokingly said how viewers can watch the show much like the Star Wars saga: start in the middle and then go back in time. All jokes aside, even if a viewer were to watch Andi Mack in such an order, unlike with Star Wars, they currently don’t have the option to go back in time to the first season at all.

As stated earlier, Andi Mack has not been the only show on Disney+ to have episodes missing. Another Disney Channel show experienced something similar when in early December, the second season of So Weird suddenly vanished. What is worth noting is that maybe that season would still be missing from the show’s lineup to this day if it weren’t for the fact that many of the show’s fans (myself included) bombarded Disney+’s customer service with questions and demands regarding the second season’s whereabouts. My guess is that the persistence must have worked, for the season was back about two weeks later.

The glitch that So Weird experienced was resolved in less than a month’s time, and this was a show that was on the Disney Channel 20 years ago. Why is it then that the same can’t be said for a show whose final season aired just last year? Much like how the So Weird fan base gathered together to demand season two, perhaps it’s time that similar action is made for the groundbreaking show that is Andi Mack.
