Today, Disney+ is getting injected with a healthy dose of nostalgia! Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers is officially hitting the streaming platform, and if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s hilarious! It is a clever, self aware send up of reboot and cameo culture inspired movies like Ready Player One or Space Jam 2, that’s guaranteed to put a smile on your face with an adorable story. And we got to speak with the masterminds behind that story, screenwriters Dan Gregor and Doug Mand.
This week, we met with Gregor and Mand to chat about the challenges of bringing this movie to life. Apart from just the fact that the original show has a very niche audience of Gen Z’ers who grew up with The Disney Afternoon, there was also an additional challenge in greenlighting the use of several non-Disney characters throughout the movie, and they go into details about that, and prospects for future stories in the Rescue Rangers world.
