‘Soul’ Producers Address the Blue Elephant in the Room

Pixar’s Soul takes a musical journey into the meaning of life — literally. In the film, Joe Gardner seems to be the prototype for “if you can’t do, teach.” But he very much wants to do. However, just when he’s about to get his first jazz gig, he dies. *insert Price is Right trombone.*

The first 35 minutes of the jazzy New York-set movie that I saw were great. Joe (Jamie Foxx), upon his death, is sent to the Great Before. There he meets apathetic New Soul 22 (Tina Fey), who finds it in her own best interest to help Joe return to his life on Earth. Sensing the direction of the rest of the movie, I imagine it will be as heartfelt as every other Pixar classic. It’s new Christmas Day home release feels like a really good choice to celebrate life, the purpose of art in our lives, and exploring how we connect with ourselves and others.

The Spectacular Susan Park on ‘Snowpiercer’

The Eternal Engine keeps on rolling! This past Sunday, TNT’s re-imagining of Snowpiercer made it’s hotly anticipated debut. And while on the show the passengers of the circumnavigating locomotive might seem to be constantly at war with one another, in reality, all the actors that contribute their talents to the series couldn’t be more humble and close to one another. In addition to being able to speak with Jaylin Fletcher early last week, The Nerds of Color was also fortunate enough to chat with Snowpiercer star, Susan Park, who plays the train’s chef, Jinju, to discuss her role, the show’s themes, and the magnificent chemistry with her co-stars.

Surviving the ‘Snowpiercer’ with Jaylin Fletcher

On Sunday, May 17, the Snowpiercer will ride again! Snowpiercer, the new TV-adaptation of the amazing 2013 Bong Joon-Ho film, and the graphic novel the movie was based on, will be premiering this weekend. And to celebrate the premiere of the show, The Nerds of Color was able to sit down with one of its stars, Jaylin Fletcher, who plays Miles on the show, to get the skinny on the show, working with Daveed Diggs, Marvel-movie dreams, and his hopes for what audiences take away from this ambitious show:

Green Arrows and Ham: Five ‘Hamilton’ Stars who Should be in the DC Universe

If you follow this site, you know there aren’t many things we obsess over more than The CW’s DC Universe and Hamilton. And since most of the original cast of the Broadway phenomenon has moved on — or is about to move on [sadface] — I figured why not mash up our favorite things and imagine which DC characters the Hamilton cast could play in the Berlanti-verse? We all know how much they love casting Broadway talent on these shows in the first place. Besides, Lin himself has said we should expect these guys on our favorite shows anyway:
