At CinemaCon 2026, Warner Bros. Brings Us ‘The Big Picture’

Phew! CinemaCon last week had us exhausted! It was a brilliant time checking out all the latest advancements coming to the theatrical industry, from the newest formats to the newest snacks, and even popcorn buckets coming to your theaters soon. The goal: to keep the theatrical experience alive! The major studios come to the convention to share their latest slates with theater owners and exhibitors, showcasing the biggest releases expected to bring the audiences back for more! We had the opportunity to check out many of these showcases, and we’ll be breaking down everything we saw last week here on The Nerds of Color! First up: Warner Bros. Pictures.

How Supergirl Inspired this Brown Immigrant Child

Growing up in the US as an Iraqi Kurdish/West Asian Muslim kid in the ‘90s here in the US, pre-heroes like Kamala Khan (Ms. Marvel), Zari Tarazi of DC’s Legend of Tomorrow, Khalid Nassour (Dr. Fate), and Green Lantern Simon Baz coming up in the 2000s and 2010s, you rarely, if ever, saw heroes on screen you could identify with.

The DCU’s Supergirl Has Been Found!

News has been circulating throughout the rumor mill that the search for Supergirl in James Gunn’s new DC Cinematic Universe (aka the DCU) has been underway for the past few days. According to those rumors, buzzy talent like Emilia Jones (CODA) and Meg Donnelly (The Winchesters) were among the top contenders for the role. However, the cape has officially been passed down to none other than House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock.

Enter the ‘House of the Dragon’ as New Teaser Trailer Debuts

Let’s address the elephant in the room. Game of Thrones did not end well. For every brilliant season the show had, there was an episode in the final season that disappointed fans. But whatever the case, the fact of the matter remains, before GoT there had never been anything like it on television ever, and still isn’t. We can throw a million and one fantasy clones at a streaming service (Shadow and Bone, Wheel of Time, Foundation, The Witcher, Cursed, etc.). And yet none of them ever matched the sheer scale or cinematic quality of fantasy storytelling that the original show achieved.
