Warning: Spoiler alert for the first episode of Loki
When WandaVision premiered, fans speculated that the series Big Bad was going to be Mephisto, a devil-like demon from Hell, and stuck with the idea that he will eventually be introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When he did not appear in WandaVision, many fans hope for the red devil were lost until the premiere of Marvel’s new series Loki. Obviously, when the first episode of Loki dropped – fans observed every little detail – including a scene which featured TVA agent Mobius (Owen Wilson) traveling to a crime scene where TVA soldiers were found killed. He proceeded to ask a young child who was present on who killed the men in the church. The child then pointed to a stained glass of a devil.

I realize I’ve only seen two episodes, but as of this moment, Loki is absolutely already my favorite of the Marvel Studios shows so far. Don’t get me wrong. WandaVision is incredibly original and ambitious. The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Captain America and the Winter Soldier was relevant and politically aware. But after the first two episodes of each, I found myself questioning whether or not I loved the shows as much as the films. Yes it’s great to give us time to explore these characters as more than just B-members of The Avengers, playing second fiddle to the original six. But was it really going to give me the same feelings I got whenever I’d walk out of the cinemas after another rousing $200M budgeted 2-3 hour installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
In the global press conference today for Marvel’s Loki, director Kate Herron and writer Michael Waldron revealed the style of the drama-crime series was inspired by the films, Se7en, Zodiac, and Silence of the Lambs. The series does have a dark aspect — muted colors around the series — which Herron used to highlight similar film noir aspects.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson brought one of Marvel’s fastest superheroes to life in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. We all know how that ended, but though his time with the character was short-lived, Johnson’s take amassed a fanbase that arguably rivals his Kick Ass co-star Evan Peters’ version from the X-Men films.
Now, ATJ is returning to the Marvel universe, but instead of speeding alongside the world’s finest, he’ll be taking his sweet time hunting them down; starting with Spider-Man.

When Yvonne Chapman first received the call that she was cast in the reboot of The CW’s Kung Fu, she was over the moon and immediately called her husband and friends. It all happened so quickly for the Calgary native. When Chapman first auditioned for the role of the villainous Zhilan — an ageless Guardian who is determined to collect all the mythical swords that, if in the wrong hands, could destroy the world — she immediately fell in love with the character.
“The entire time I was like ‘oh man, I really hope I get this,’” Chapman revealed on the phone with The Nerds of Color last week. “I remembered in that time with my friends and my husband that I [had a] feel in my gut. I just felt like it was really right for me. It was just hoping that other people felt the same.”

Watching wrestling as a kid both fascinated and horrified me. To have to step into a ring, in front of tens of thousands of cheering and jeering audience members, was no simple feat in my eyes.
If The Rock wasn’t your favorite in the late ’90s and early 2000s, we probably didn’t talk much. It’s no wonder he was the go-to pick to portray Black Adam on the big screen, and during Saturday’s DC FanDome panel, he made it clear to other heroes and heroines in the DC universe he wasn’t to be trifled with.

Oh man, the anticipation is killing me! Today during DC FanDome, James Gunn and the full cast of The Suicide Squad, including Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Alice Braga, John Cena, Viola Davis, and more took to the internet to share some awesome announcements and fun for fans across the world, who have been waiting on pins and needles for the eagerly awaited follow-up. And my god. I think they may have just won the whole DC FanDome experience!
Jason Scott Lee has been part of Hollywood for a long time breaking many barriers than Asian Americans had sought for so long. In 1993, Lee played the iconic role of Bruce Lee in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, one of the only Bruce Lee biopics approved by the Lee Family. The following year, he went on to star in the first live-action Disney film, The Jungle Book, as Mowgli, marking the first time an Asian American took on a lead role in a Disney film.
Noted for playing the good guy in his films like The Jungle Book and Lilo & Stitch, Lee was ready to take on a different role — Disney villain. In the new Disney live-action film Mulan, Lee plays Bori Khan aka “Shan Yu” of the Rouran tribes. As the main antagonist to Yifei Liu’s Mulan, Bori Khan is determined to overpower the Emperor (Jet Li) and the people of China.

When I saw Joker at the Toronto International Film Festival, the main question I wanted answered was: Do the Black people die in this movie? Spoiler alert: they don’t. At least not on screen. Clearly, the director, Todd Phillips, knew what it would look like if they were to die by the Joker’s hand (even if he doesn’t seem to quite know how to do a press tour). But that doesn’t mean all is well for positive representation in the widely divisive movie.

Earlier this month, The Nerds of Color, along with several other members of the press, were invited to partake in the madness that is Joker, with a screening of the film and mini-panel with director Todd Phillips (The Hangover trilogy, War Dogs, Old School) and the Clown Prince of Crime himself, Joaquin Phoenix.
