The Spectacular Susan Park on ‘Snowpiercer’
The Eternal Engine keeps on rolling! This past Sunday, TNT’s re-imagining of Snowpiercer made it’s hotly anticipated debut. And while on the show the passengers of the circumnavigating locomotive might seem to be constantly at war with one another, in reality, all the actors that contribute their talents to the series couldn’t be more humble and close to one another. In addition to being able to speak with Jaylin Fletcher early last week, The Nerds of Color was also fortunate enough to chat with Snowpiercer star, Susan Park, who plays the train’s chef, Jinju, to discuss her role, the show’s themes, and the magnificent chemistry with her co-stars.

NOC Review: ‘Scoob,’ This is How You ‘Doo’ It!
If it wasn’t clear by the additions of The Blue Falcon, Dynomutt, Dick Dastardly, and Captain Caveman to the mix, Scoob is not just a tribute to the cowardly canine and the Mystery Inc. gang, but an actual celebration of the fun-tastic world of Hanna-Barbera! If you were a child who grew up watching, not only Scooby Doo, Where Are You?, but also Wacky Races or even any Hanna-Barbera cartoon, you’ll definitely appreciate the movie. Cute, funny, and heartfelt, Scoob will make you yearn for the days where you could plop yourself in front of the TV on a Saturday morning with a sugary bowl of cereal, and sing along to the theme songs from your favorite toons. Because at it’s core, that’s what this movie is — a delightful, colorful, clever bowl of sugary goodness.

Action, Depth, and Poetry Mark the End of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’
Warning: The following contains spoilers from the recent and final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Twelve years following its premiere to initially hesitant audiences, the now beloved Star Wars animated series, The Clone Wars, has at last received the proper ending it deserved. Set after Attack of the Clones and concluding sometime after Revenge of the Sith, the brainchild of Star Wars creator George Lucas and supervising director Dave Filoni explored stories of a wide variety of characters — both familiar and new faces — during the war that was previously more of a backdrop to the fall of Anakin Skywalker.

The Middle Geeks 12: The Perils and Implications of Excluding MENA People from ‘Dune’
The internet was abuzz a few weeks ago when the first photos for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune 2020 adaptation came out, but where were all the MENA people who should have been cast in a work clearly informed by the Middle East and its people, down to blatantly using Arabic and Persian words? Why did Warner Brothers and Villeneuve not cast any MENA actors or We’re very tired. We also discuss the return of Legends of Tomorrow and what we thought of Tala Ashe’s mesmerizing performance, give our recommendations for our collective time in quarantine, and much more!

Alan Yang is About to Get Serious with ‘Tigertail’
Alan Yang is a funny guy.
He has written and directed some of the funniest episodes for hit comedy series like Parks and Recreation and The Good Place. He also co-created the award-winning comedy, Master of None, winning both a Peabody and Emmy for his work on the acclaimed series.
Now, Yang is about to release his first feature film this week on Netflix, and it’s not what you’d expect. After working in comedy for several years, Yang wanted to write about something personal. Inspired by a trip he took to Taiwan with his father four years ago, Yang really got to know his father and the life he lived in Taiwan — his hopes, dreams, failures, ambitions, and regrets. Tigertail, a multigenerational drama surrounding a Taiwanese American immigrant story, was the end result.

‘Gotham High’ Breathes Fresh Life into the Bat Mythos
Traditional superhero comics have been part of the American pop culture firmament for eight decades. And more often than not, those stories can feel staid and mired in nostalgia for long bygone eras. Which is why creators who come along with bold new interpretations of these characters are usually met with resistance. To wit, when the book trailer for Gotham High — DC Comics’ latest foray into the young adult book market — debuted, the fanboy set went apoplectic.
