‘Nebulous Dark’ Can’t Time Travel Enough to Be a Strong Movie

A nightmare-fueled time-traveling plot unravels in Shahin Sean Solimon’s new film, Nebulous Dark, a sci-fi movie about the world’s last human man as he wakes from deep sleep to find the Earth has been conquered by aliens. This sounds pretty straight forward for a plot, but this is only how I could fully understand the film after watching it and reading the synopsis again. If you were to watch Nebulous Dark after only seeing the trailer, as I did, you would find an almost surreal, nihilist nightmare of a film that I can’t tell if it’s poorly edited and poorly written, or if it’s actively trying to attack the viewer on a subconscious level. What I was left with was an art piece that genuinely intrigues me and is unintentionally funny, by a film that takes itself incredibly seriously.

‘Army of the Dead’ Prequel ‘Army of Thieves’ Drops Official Key Art

The prequel to director Zack Snyder’s kick-ass zombie heist movie has dropped official art from its teaser and it’s looking like another zombie hit is on the way. Army of Thieves takes place before Army of the Dead and follows the goings-on of small-town bank teller Dieter (Matthias Schweighöfer) after he gets drawn into the adventure of a lifetime. We’re excited to see how well Schweighöfer’s unforgettable performance as Dieter in Snyder’s film sheds light on his character’s past.

From Amazon to Zombie Hunter: Samantha Win Reflects on Her Career

Samantha Win is blowing up. It’s only May, but it’s already been quite a year for the actress / martial artist / stunt performer / Amazonian warrior / zombie hunter. In March, she wrote, produced, and starred in a genre-bending shortfilm called Unwelcome. She can currently be seen on HBO Max as Euboea in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. On May 14, her latest Snyder-collab, Army of the Dead opens in theaters nationwide — making it Netflix’s widest release ever — before coming to the streamer the following week on May 21.

‘Alive’ Is a Banger of a Zombie Movie You Didn’t Know You Needed

I am a stickler for zombie films. I just try to do right by George A. Romero, rest his soul. Romero’s Dawn of the Dead, as well as Zack Snyder’s remake, hold an incredibly important place in my zombie infested heart. I think a filmmaker who endeavors to shoot a zombie flick is only as good as the fear they can induce with scenes shot during the day. Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later should be at the top of all of our lists for the kind of anxiety inducing scenes Cillian Murphy so masterfully carried us through.

How AMC Ruined ‘The Walking Dead’ (In Five Simple Steps)

I used to go hard for TheWalking Dead. I joined the party in early Season 2 after binge watching all of Season 1 on a rainy weekend. I was obsessed. Not only did I buy Season 1 almost immediately, I demanded everyone I know and love watch it too. It was that good.

Three Reasons Why #Richonne is a Black History Month Gift

Originally posted at COLOR

Hip hop hooray, Richonne (Rick and Michonne) is now officially canon in The Walking Dead! And, as luck would have it, such a development has happened in one of the most hallowed of months, Black History Month.

This didn’t go unnoticed by many on Twitter:

Now or Later: We’ll Need to Deal with That Death on The Walking Dead

This essay contains spoilers for both the television series and the comic book.

I don’t have cable. So I usually have to wait until the day after to watch The Walking Dead. As luck would have it, I’m in a cheap hotel with complementary AMC with my daughter when the episode “Thank You” airs. Six years old, my daughter is in the bath and complains about the sound from my television show — the two things that she fears the most, while awake and in her nightmares, are racists and zombies. Our compromise is that I turn the sound down and the captions on. And then I watch one of my favorite characters in pop culture get deluged in zombie claws, teeth, blood and guts.

Is AMC Finally Embracing Diversity This Fall?

It’s hard to believe it’s already been a week since Comic-Con started, but here we are in that post-Con daze, and I’m still recovering. While I might need some more time before getting back into regularly scheduled posting, I didn’t want to leave before I comment on a couple of the trailers that came out of SDCC. No, not this one or that one. Instead, I want to focus on the early looks that came out of the AMC presentations and how the network is kicking off the post-Don Draper era by seemingly embracing diversity in the casts of its newest shows.

Amigo Undead

Interview with Ryan Nagata, Director of Amigo Undead

Ryan Nagata has worked in Hollywood as a prop builder and model maker as well as a director for television and web series. His latest project, which he co-wrote and directed, is a feature length film that pairs up the unlikely duo of stars, Randall Park and Steve Agee, for a horror-comedy set in a desert called Amigo Undead. I had the opportunity to interview Nagata about Amigo Undead, his film background, and his thoughts on CGI vs. practical effects.

NOC Recaps iZombie: Dying Under the Influence

Trait of the Week: Journalism and alcoholism.

This week’s iZombie case of the week was a bit more important to hold onto because it had reveals and ramifications for the story at large. Poor Liv is still reeling from Lowell’s death. When she gets the chance to eat a victim who’s prone to drinking her weight in booze, she takes it up, but the case she catches and Major’s post-Candyman episode threaten to suffocate her.

NOC Recaps iZombie: In the Line of Fire

Trait of the Week: Super Sniper Skills, PTSD

iZombie’s best strength is definitely its characters. While packaged in a procedural format, this week I once again found myself glazing over at the case o’ the week — despite our visit from Veronica Mars alum Percy Daggs III (WALLACE!). But we were treated to a surprise twist at the end of the episode that highlights the show’s strength in its characters. In “Patriot Brains,” Liv confronts Lowell about Blaine, Ravi learns whether or not he is doomed to zombie-ism, and Major convinces everyone not on Team Z that he is having a psychotic break.
