The Snyderverse I Wanted is Back with ‘Army of the Dead’

Everyone I know is talking about The SnyderCut and #RestoreTheSnyderVerse! Well, I am here to tell you, this Nerd is more excited about Zack Snyder’s return to zombies with… Army of the Dead!

My love for Zack Snyder began with his first feature film, the 2004 remake of the 1978 horror classic, Dawn of the Dead. While the 1978 Dawn still holds the top spot as my favorite horror film of all time, I really enjoyed Zack’s take on this classic horror film franchise. Zack made the film his own and brought his signature style that would launch him into the career that we know today! With Army of the Dead, I am even further excited as it has been reported that this film is a special project for Snyder as he served as his own cinematographer, as well as this being his first film shot digitally; allowing Zack the ability to really express himself creatively!

Additionally, as we are… The Nerds of Color! I am super excited for the representation that we are going to see in this film! #RepresentationMatters! First up, my favorite Filipino wrestler turned superstar actor, Dave Bautista leads the cast! Most are familiar with his work as Drax, the savage but occasionally sensitive member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, but Dave has been knocking out amazing performances in Dune, Blade Runner 2049, My Spy, Hotel Artemis, Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy, and more! By the way, Dave, if you’re are reading this… you are on my top five wish list of interviews for my FilipinX podcast, ShoPowSho (on Twitter and IG) wherein we celebrate amazing Filipinos like yourself… and you know we Filipinos… we are willing to feed you… and you never leave hungry from a Filipino gathering! Just saying… C’mon Tito Dave! (I digress. But, seriously, please help NOC FANS make this a reality!)

Army of the Dead also features: iconic Japanese actor, Hiroyuki Sanada (who can be currently seen as Scorpion in Mortal Kombat), Chinese-Canadian actor, Samantha Win (who played Kitana in Mortal Kombat: Legacy), Mexican actor, Ana de la Reguera (with credits in Ana, Goliath, and Power but most notably remembered as Sister Encarnación in Nacho Libre), Mexican actor, Raúl Castillo (recent credits include Ghost Tape and The Accidental Wolf) and rounded out with African American actor, Omari Hardwick (best known for his starring role as James “Ghost” St. Patrick, the protagonist of Starz’s Power)!
