New ‘Peacemaker’ Clip and Comic-Con Special Edition Round-Up

This past weekend marked a nice toe-dip return to form for San Diego, which saw a scaled down version of Comic-Con International in the city, called Comic-Con Special Edition. While the nice-and-easy mini-convention was light on major studio presences, the one property that dared to make an appearance was James Gunn’s Peacemaker!

Into The SDCC-Cosplay-Verse With The NOC, Part II

More sights and snikts from the extraordinarily eventful San Diego Comic-Con 2019 (The 50th edition of SDCC!) Check out earlier coverage here and here!

We’ll get into the big reveals from SDCC50 on our podcast; we have plenty of time to contemplate the new Picard series, the Top Gun sequel (Miramar is right there in San Diego, after all), The CW’s Crisis crossover, the multiverse of announcements from Marvel in Hall H. For now, we’re still feeling the sunny afterglow from the melting pot of fandoms, cosplayers, and creative folk who make Comic-Con International such a special gathering, particularly so on this week when our Supervillain-In-Chief was yelling bigotry at POCs to “go back where they came from.” What can I say, fool: We’re from here.

‘IT: Chapter 2’ Footage will have You Floating Too

Warner Bros. had an exciting opening to Comic-Con with their Scare Diego presentation of IT: Chapter 2. Hosted by Conan O’Brien, select fans and press were invited to preview the trailer and several scenes from the upcoming sequel. The director, Andrés Muschietti, and cast were on hand to answer some questions surrounding what was presented, including Jessica Chastain as Beverly, James McAvoy as Bill, Isaiah Mustafa as Mike, Jay Ryan as Ben, Bill Hader as Richie, James Ransone as Eddie, and Andy Bean as Stanley.

The 11 SDCC Commandments

Okay, folks. We’re hurtling towards San Diego Comic-Con this week. Sadly, I can’t make it this year, but as Keith Chow said on the Hard NOC Life Podcast, I’ll be there in spirit.

Many of us have felt the sting of Star Wars whineboys, Tump’s obvious treasonous behavior, the #comicsgate and #gamergate travesties; waiting for a refund from Universal FanCon, or genuinely feel let down by nerd culture. I get it. Trust me. But this weekend should be a time for celebration, connecting with old friends, making new friends, and having fun. Yes! Remember when this stuff was fun?

Rally for Rose Tico at San Diego Comic-Con

It goes without saying that we are huge fans of Rose Tico and  Kelly Marie Tran here at The Nerds of Color. Unfortunately, there’s a significant portion of Star Wars fandom that doesn’t agree. Even worse, they’ve taken their disdain for a fictional character and used it to harass the actress so much that she had to delete her Instagram.

How to Comic-Con in Under 48 Hours

If you ever get the chance to attend Comic-Con International in San Diego, you should probably do the complete opposite of what I did. Namely, give yourself some time to travel and eat food. Other than that, my Comic-Con experience this year was probably the best time I’ve had at a convention in a long time! Big thanks to Marissa, Mike, and Dariane of Racebending for inviting me to the Super Asian America panel (more on that later!) and allowing me to come back to SDCC in the first place!

Etiquette in the New World of Comic Cons

In light of recent comments by comic artist Pat Broderick about cosplay and conventions, I think it’s a good time to look at what proper etiquette is like in this new age of pop culture dominance. I won’t only be speaking as a con goer of 11 years, but also as an exhibitor at New York Comic-Con for six years for a major exhibitor. The following is not just con etiquette for con-goers, but for exhibitors as well, to acquaint those who want to purvey goods in this new age.
