‘Skeleton Crew’ Soldifies a Wizard Time of Adventure and Mystery

There’s something splendidly meta about seeing kids pretend to have a lightsaber battle, in a galaxy where there actually are Jedi and lightsabers. That’s what came to mind while watching the premiere of the newest Star Wars live-action series, Skeleton Crew, where a group of kids come across an abandoned starship and accidentally launch themselves into space.

We are counting down to the premiere of Creature Commandos. How Disney Imagineers Found Inspiration for ‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’ Attraction

Disneyland welcomed Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Attraction on November 15 in the newly renamed Bayou Country (formerly Critter Country). Based on the 2009 animated film The Princess and the Frog, the ride tells the story of Princess Tiana and her upbringing (and entrepreneurship) in New Orleans in the 1920s.

Disneyland Resort’s ‘Tiana’s Bayou Adventure’ is a Bayou-tiful Reimagining on a Classic

For years, Disneyland guests have braved the waters of Splash Mountain attraction. Though it was a beloved ride to many, aspects of it were outdated and offensive. So, like the resort, it got modernized as “Tiana’s Bayou Adventure,” a whimsical water-based adventure based on The Princess and the Frog for a new generation while retaining the original’s fun spirit.

Conversing of Fear and Face-Huggers with ‘Alien: Romulus’ Star Aileen Wu

I’ve had the most fortunate pleasure of speaking with the amazing cast members of this year’s sci-fi blockbuster hit, Alien: Romulus throughout the year. In fact, I’ll never forget my first interview with them at San Diego Comic Con this past July! The only regret I had, was not being able to speak with the terrific Aileen Wu, who plays the tragic Navarro, since she wasn’t able to make it to San Diego.

‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ is a Fun Family Adventure That Feels Familiar

The Star Wars universe has always been seen in extremes — from the desolate sand towns to the gritty, grimy streets and the extravagant and luxurious worlds. There is rarely a middle ground. What is most intriguing about Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is how suburban and ordinary a Star Wars world could be.

A Los Angeles Theatre Review: ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’

I was about a week old when I learned there was a staged musical version of the 1996 Disney animated classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame (this still ranks as the best Disney animated film opening of all time, with The Lion King being a close tie) so when I learned that a 99-seat theatre company called CASA 0101 was going to mount their own production of it with a largely Latino cast, I knew I had to check it out.

Discussing Bene Gesserit Secrets with the Sisters of ‘Dune: Prophecy’

The newest chapter in the Dune saga has debuted. Max’s new tentpole series, Dune: Prophecy, explores a time frame centuries before the birth of Paul Atredies. The series is focused exclusively on the rise of the Bene Gesserit. And frankly, right now, we definitely could use more stories about powerful women.

‘Interior Chinatown’ vs the “Chinatown Episodes” of ‘NYPD Blue’ and ‘Law & Order’

Part II of a three-part series looking at the Hulu series Interior Chinatown in relation to the Asian American-themed media it references, satirizes, and interpolates. The meta-comedic film-set motif of the show pointedly focuses on the “Chinatown Episode” featured in numerous crime-procedural shows, in which the protagonists investigate a murder in Chinatown, which brings them into contact with Asian exotica, typically at the rate of 1.5 murders per season.

Talking Trauma, Black History, and Inspiration with RaMell Ross and the Cast of ‘Nickel Boys’

The Four Seasons in Beverly Hills set the stage for what was to be a fun and insightful afternoon of dialogue and inspirations between myself and the cast of RaMell Ross’ newest cinematic offering, Nickel Boys. We took up the space of the 12th floor, which had a stunning view of the 90210 zip code; several rooms were reserved for the junket specifically — rooms that hosted my four interviews of the day, RaMell Ross, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and a joint meeting with Ethan Heriss and Brandon Wilson.

‘Moana 2’ is a Beautiful Sonic and Visual Feast

The first Moana was a journey of self-discovery for the title character (Auliʻi Cravalho) who teamed up with the awesome fishhook-wielding and shapeshifting and sometimes self-centered demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson) to restore the heart of Tefiti. Eight years later, audiences are reunited with the characters they love in Moana 2, a sequel that’s worthy of your time.
