As we speak, Warner Bros. is currently flying through their slate of films at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. And right from the opening, they showed they weren’t playing around! Matt Reeves came out on stage, and together with the studio announced that they are moving forward with the next installment of The Batman.
One of the ways The Dark Knight changed the game for superhero movies in 2008 was through its innovative viral marketing strategy. Taking full advantage of nascent social media platforms, Nolan’s Batman sequel used the internet to immerse fans in the world of Gotham. Matt Reeves’ The Batman has been taking a similar approach in its use of the internet to market. And today’s reveal is the culminating event it’s all been building toward.

The Batman is here! After many long months of waiting and speculating, the first reviews for Matt Reeves’ take on the Dark Knight Detective dropped yesterday to a stellar 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. We at The Nerds of Color also dropped our review of the film, which you can read right here. However, what does it take to bring a Batman story to life? We were recently given the opportunity to discuss this topic and many others with some of the cast of The Batman!
What does it mean to truly capture the essence of Batman? In the past 33 years, we’ve had three big budget, big screen franchises starring The Caped Crusader. And each time, at one point or another, we’ve more than likely heard the phrase “the definitive version of Batman” uttered among colleagues, friends, and fanboys. However, in these 33 incredible years, which have seen their shares of highs and lows with adaptations of the mythology, there surprisingly has never been a truly detective-oriented Batman story put to live action film. Until now.
The light shone brightly on the dimly lit backdrop of the Warner Brothers studio lot during a random night in February. Displayed high above was the familiar shape that represented vengeance and justice: the sleek silhouette of a bat! In a week that was uncharacteristically warm during this time of year, even for Los Angeles, things were about to heat up even more. For shortly, before a limited number of members of the press, The Batman would soon appear!
We’re getting closer and closer to the coming of The Batman! And you can feel the anticipation punching its way across the internet like a bat out of Hell, with IMAX tickets for the Fan First event selling out this past week! And who can blame folks? Matt Reeves’ interpretation of the Caped Crusader looks epically spectacular!
I actually mean that literally. There’s a lot of fire in this one.
To be honest, I’m not sure what it is with studios giving us some really gorgeous artwork, then slapping together obligatory “disembodied faces” with Photoshop for final posters. The MCU is guilty of it. DC is guilty of it. Star Wars is guilty of it. And it’s not my favorite trend overall.
Just a few minutes ago, director Matt Reeves revealed the new Batman theme from Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino (The Incredibles, Up, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man: No Way Home) via Twitter. And it already sounds epically iconic!
We are a little over a month and a half away from the most anticipated movie of the year, The Batman! And while we’ve been fortunate enough to get a fair amount of trailers with some epic footage so far, we haven’t seen that many posters for the upcoming movie. Well apparently, WB and DC felt the same way, because they dropped two pieces of artwork today for their big tentpole release of the year.
Can you believe it? In less than three months, The Batman is coming! But sooner than that, it feels like something else might be coming soon. Perhaps another trailer? We can’t know for sure at this moment, but today Matt Reeves dropped a really cool little motion image that teases the impending release of what could possibly be a game changing direction for this character on film!

Consumer Products have officially revealed a plethora of must-have products featuring characters and vehicles from Matt Reeves’ reboot of The Batman. DC FanDome has been a BLESSING all day today. But the greatest gift of all, has been this spectacular trailer for The Batman! It’s beginning to look like Matt Reeves is pulling out all the stops to turn this into a unique cinematic vision for the Caped Crusader than others before him (though perhaps skewing a bit closer to the Nolan vision than the others — not a bad thing by the way).
Oh man! Who is PSYCHED for Saturday? The second DC FanDome is coming this Saturday, October 16. And among the very promising teases DC has dropped for the event, the most highly anticipated one promises to be the debut of the brand new trailer for Matt Reeves’ The Batman!
The Batman Unburied podcast has just gotten a little bigger. Previously, it was reported that Winston Duke (Black Panther, Us) would voice Bruce Wayne/Batman, while Jason Isaacs (Harry Potter) would voice his trusted butler/father figure Alfred. The two are headlining the podcast written by David S. Goyer, which promises an original story that tests the limits of Batman’s physical strength as well as his mental capabilities as Gotham City’s greatest protector.
Perhaps the most anticipated event of the DC FanDome was the reveal of Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Earlier this week, Reeves dropped the logo and some awesome Jim Lee art to build up the hype. But today, all some was unveiled!
