‘The Batman’ Cast on Becoming the Riddler, Gordon, and Alfred

The Batman is here! After many long months of waiting and speculating, the first reviews for Matt Reeves’ take on the Dark Knight Detective dropped yesterday to a stellar 87% on Rotten Tomatoes. We at The Nerds of Color also dropped our review of the film, which you can read right here. However, what does it take to bring a Batman story to life? We were recently given the opportunity to discuss this topic and many others with some of the cast of The Batman!

Specifically, it was my honor to sit down with new Bat-icons, Paul Dano (who plays The Riddler), Jeffrey Wright (who plays Jim Gordon), and Andy Serkis (who plays Alfred). Thinking on the legacy of this franchise, these phenomenal actors put their unique spin on each of the different characters, taking on the reins from previous heavy-hitter stars like Jim Carrey, Gary Oldman, and Michael Caine.

However, as a fan of this new interpretation, I can safely say each of these remarkable actors takes the material and makes it their own in the most terrific way imaginable. In short, you’ve never seen versions of Riddler, Gordon, or Alfred like this! So how did they do it?

I ask about that, and many other questions in the interview below. Check it out here:

The Batman hits theaters this Friday, March 4!
