In the 1990s, the comic book industry was changed forever. Emerging young talent such as Jim Lee, Rob Liefeld, Jeph Loeb, and many more brought superheroes into a modern era of gorgeous, iconic splash pages, and reinvented storylines that popularized characters like the X-Men, and introduced amazing antiheroes like Deadpool. However, if there’s one name that stands out as one of the greatest pioneers in comics during this, or any era, it’s legendary Spawn creator, Todd McFarlane!
Over the years, McFarlane’s empire expanded! From becoming a revolutionary artist at Marvel and co-creating Venom, to becoming a co-founder of Image comics, and today expanding the Spawn Universe, bringing the dark antihero back to the big screen for an upcoming reboot with Jamie Foxx. As a true artist, McFarlane’s vision has translated from the 2D splash pages and panels of the comics to the tangible real-life action figures for us to take home and add to our shelves (in mint condition).
McFarlane Toys, his action figure company, has been responsible for some of the greatest models and collectables on the market today! From DC Multiverse to Movie Maniacs, and of course, his iconic Spawn line, McFarlane Toys has delivered time and time again on some of the most detailed, amazingly realized figurines anyone can conceivably own. Thus, revolutionizing the toy industry just as he once did with the comic book industry. Now, McFarlane has started a Kickstarter campaign for an incredible reboot of his original Medieval Spawn action figure from the first series of the original ’90s toy line.
We were fortunate enough to get a 20-minute 1:1 interview with the man, the myth, the McFarlane legend himself to discuss the campaign, as well as future plans for the Spawn Universe and the upcoming film reboot!
