Warner Bros. Animation and DC Studios just greenlit an adult animated series based on Mister Miracle, the critically acclaimed, brain-melting comic series from Tom King and Mitch Gerads. Even better? King is being brought in to showrun the series — with a few Mother Boxes and Omega Beams thrown in for good measure.
The show’s official synopsis hints that King won’t be deviating too much from the original comics: Scott Free is the world’s greatest escape artist, but even he may not be able to escape what’s coming. With war erupting between Apokolips and New Genesis, and the Anti-Life Equation finally within Darkseid’s grasp, Scott and his wife Big Barda are pulled back into the conflict they tried to leave behind. But the real tension may lie within — as Scott begins to question the nature of his reality, the happiness he’s found, and whether it’s all just another trap.

While a network or streaming platform hasn’t been announced yet, the series marks the next chapter in DC Studios’ expansion into adult animation, following the debut of Creature Commandos on Max earlier this year. Also not made clear in the press release was whether Mister Miracle will be standalone (like My Adventures with Superman) or part of James Gunn’s larger connected universe (like the aforementioned Creature Commandos).
No casting or other creative team details have been announced yet. But if the adaptation decides to lean into the emotional complexity and stylistic boldness of the source material — I had a few thoughts on who should play Scott and Barda a few years back when King was going to team up with Ava DuVernay on a New Gods movie:

Adapting the original Kirby series would have worked much better for me.
