Gunn-ing for Peace: James Gunn on ‘Peacemaker’

Genius. Gonzo. Hilarious. Surreal. All four adjectives typically go hand-in-hand when speaking about the work of Peacemaker and The Suicide Squad mastermind, James Gunn. Indeed, the master filmmaker has been putting his unique, identifiable stamp on every project he’s shepherded since the first film he wrote — 1997’s Tromeo and Juliet. And from there, Gunn’s star has only grown brighter, serving as a testament to how sometimes, Hollywood gets it right, and rightfully rewards the talented.

NOC Review: ‘Peacemaker’ Makes For a Solid Piece of Television

Without hesitation, I can declare proudly that James Gunn’s gonzo comic book masterpiece, The Suicide Squad was easily one of my top five films of 2021. In addition to a fun story, gorgeously shot visuals, and hilariously raunchy script, we fell in love with the likes of fellow misfits Ratcatcher II, Polka Dot Man, and King Shark.

After his star making debut at Comic-Con Special Edition last week, Peacemaker has brought us a new full trailer for his upcoming series (aptly named Peacemaker) coming to HBO Max January 13! The trailer is full of mayhem and explosions, and a little less humor than the previous teaser shown at DC FanDome, but still some good belly laughs courtesy of Freddie Stroma’s Vigilante. Check it out here now:

New ‘Peacemaker’ Clip and Comic-Con Special Edition Round-Up

This past weekend marked a nice toe-dip return to form for San Diego, which saw a scaled down version of Comic-Con International in the city, called Comic-Con Special Edition. While the nice-and-easy mini-convention was light on major studio presences, the one property that dared to make an appearance was James Gunn’s Peacemaker!

DC FanDome: Trailer and Release Date for ‘Peacemaker’ Revealed

New ‘Peacemaker’ Clip Shows Up in Full Cosplay Mode

For those out there, like myself, who can’t get enough of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, any semblance or scrap of a sequel is, frankly, something to foam at the mouth for. And though Peacemaker proved to be the sequel’s true villain, there’s something about John Cena’s oblivious earnestness and hilarious charisma that does make me curious to see where the upcoming Peacemaker series is going to go. We know after the events of the film, that ARGUS desk-jockeys John Economos (Steve Agee) and Emilia Harcourt (Jennifer Holland) were sent to take back a very-much-alive Christopher Smith. But where things go from there remains a real mystery.

In Retrospect: ‘Birds of Prey’ and the Un-Fantabulous Omission of One Cathy Yan

I don’t typically like to compare movies. Sure, most films of recent are either a reboot, sequel or adaptation. At the very least, they take reference from kind of source material. But some movies are more comparable than others, like Suicide Squad (2016) and The Suicide Squad (2021). However, aside from confusingly similar titles, a couple of returning players, and a similar world-saving plot, these two movies have almost nothing in common.

Tyla Talks Task Force X: An Interview with Storm Reid of ‘The Suicide Squad’

The Suicide Squad is my favorite movie of the year so far. James Gunn’s tribute to the pulpy demented works of John Ostrander’s DC run in the ’80s is bloody, bold, and brilliantly surreal. And none of it would be possible if it wasn’t for a stolen Style Watch!

‘The Suicide Squad’ and the Funniest. Press. Conference. Ever!

‘The Suicide Squad’ Set Visit: It’s Harley Quinn’s Multiverse, We’re Just Living and Dying In It

In late 2019, which seems a whole world ago, The Nerds Of Color were invited to Atlanta, GA to visit the set of The Suicide Squad, which premieres on HBO Max and in theaters this Friday, August 6. Early reviews of the sequel/not-a-sequel are already out, and here’s a few more things we learned from the set visit about the “shitty supervillain” war caper film, based on the DC Comics.

SPOILERS FOLLOW! Also, possibly, opinions.
