Heyyy! It’s Kuya P back again with another NOC EXCLUSIVE! I recently sat down for a conversation with actor, Lee Shorten to discuss his journey that lead him from being a lawyer in Australia to acting in the US!
BIO: Originally from Australia, Lee Shorten graduated from Law School (University of Newcastle) in 2009 and worked as lawyer for several years. However, the pull to pursue a career in film and television was too strong to ignore, so Lee decided to leave Australia and the law behind to pursue acting in Vancouver, Canada. Recently, Lee appeared in season two of AMC’s prestige drama, The Terror alongside George Takei and James Saito, where he starred as Walt Yoshida. Lee also recently appeared in Screen Gems’ The Intruder with Dennis Quaid, and opposite Michael Ealy, and Well Go USA’s Freaks with Emile Hirsch and Grace Park. Other notable performances include: Sergeant Yoshida in Amazon’s and Ridley Scott’s The Man in the High Castle; Master Tsui, written specifically for Lee, on Syfy’s Van Helsing; Lee also recurred on The CW’s long-running drama Supernatural.
Lee is also a respected theater actor. Most notably, Lee was nominated for a Jessie Award in 2019, for his role as Jung in Pacific Theatre’s production of Kim’s Convenience. Lee was also part of the original cast of Ode Movement’s Neon, and was praised for his work as Mark in West Moon Theatre’s production of Bondage. Behind the camera, Lee’s directorial debut J’adoube won Best Ultra Short at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival 2018, and his follow-up short film Parabola, received an A+ review in the Georgia Straight and was one of the Crazy 8’s Top 6 films in 2019. Lee plans to turn Parabola into a feature. Most recently, Lee was nominated for Best Director at the Blood N Guts 48 Hr Film Fest 2019, for his horror satire, The Chaddening. Next, Lee can be seen in FX’s Cake, and has recently wrapped filming for Apple TV’s Swan Song, opposite Mahershala Ali.
