Having a Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee film surrounding their infamous sex tape from the ‘90s was not on my 2021 Bingo card, but here we are.
Based on the infamous events surrounding the 1995 infamous sex tape, Pam & Tommy will be a comedic limited series on the true story behind the release of the first ever viral video in history — the sex tape of Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.
When the project was first announced, I was a bit confused. It has been over 25 years since the release with not many people knowing about the infamous sex tape, let alone, who Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee were.
It was only when the announcement of the cast with Lily James and Sebastian Stan in the starring roles as the infamous couple that I became sold to the story being told. Hulu has released First Look photos of James and Stan as Anderson and Lee, respectively. James is completely unrecognizable, but is spot on in her appearance as the ‘90s sex symbol.
The series will look at the events that took place in 1995 and how the aftermath changed media everywhere. For those who could remember, the once-married couple of Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson, best known for her role in the ‘90s hit lifeguard series, Baywatch, filmed a sex tape that was stolen from their home and sold to the porn industry by their disgruntled ex-employee, Rand Gauthier. This was during the start of the internet boom and when pornography websites started popping up and gaining traction. The private tape went viral, causing much embarrassment for Anderson and Lee. It also launched the drive for the look intimately into other celebrity lives and the invasion of their privacy.
The series also stars Seth Rogen, Nick Offerman, Taylor Schilling, Andrew Dice Clay, Pepi Sonuga, Spencer Granese, and Mozhan Marnò. Written by Robert Siegel and DV DeVincentis. It’s directed by Craig Gillespie and executive produced by Point Grey (Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, and Alex McAtee), Annapurna (Megan Ellison, Sue Naegle, and Ali Krug), Robert Siegel, DV DeVincentis, Chip Vucelich, Dylan Sellers, Sarah Gubbins, and Dave Franco.
