‘Snake Eyes’ Teaser and Featurette Introduce Henry Golding as the Iconic G.I. Joe

During the MTV Movie and TV Awards, Paramount Pictures released a teaser of the anticipated action film, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. Directed by Robert Schwentke and starring Henry Golding as Snake Eyes, a tenacious loner who is welcomed into an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage after saving the life of their heir apparent. Upon arrival in Japan, the Arashikage teach Snake Eyes the ways of the ninja warrior while also providing something he’s been longing for: a home. But, when secrets from his past are revealed, Snake Eyes’ honor and allegiance will be tested — even if that means losing the trust of those closest to him.

In the teaser trailer, we are given action sequences and a voiceover saying, “Every warrior has a beginning.” We then see Snake Eyes welcomed into the Arashikage clan to train with them and glimpses of his future towards becoming a G.I. Joe.

Based on the iconic G.I. Joe character, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins also stars Andrew Koji as Storm Shadow, Úrsula Corberó as The Baroness, Samara Weaving as Scarlett, Haruka Abe as Akiko, Tahehiro Hira as Kenta, and Iko Uwais as Hard Master. The screenplay was written by Evan Spiliotopoulos and Anna Waterhouse & Joe Shrapnel.

In a featurette also released on the same day, Golding talks more about Snake Eyes’ origins in what he calls a “stepping stone into the G.I. Joe Universe.” We get more of a glimpse into the world of the silent ninja before he loses his voice and dons the iconic helmet. Like in the comics, we see his relationship with Storm Shadow and Scarlett, but the film provides a more updated story, so we should expect some new surprises. Larry Hama — who created the G.I. Joe universe, including the backstory for Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow — also makes an appearance in the featurette.
