Grab Your Baseball Caps: ‘Attack The Block 2’ is Official

Before he was briefly wielding Luke’s lightsaber, or taking down entire fleets of Stormtroopers, John Boyega was part of a little project called Attack the Block. “Little” of course being a massive understatement. Though it took a minute, Attack the Block became a smash success, developing a cult following thanks to its clever blend of science fiction horror and comedy. That, and its incredible cast that included John Boyega, Jodie Whitaker, and Nick Frost.

I was thirteen years old when Attack the Block came out. Making it the perfect “I shouldn’t be watching this, but I’ve seen it five times” R-rated movie. Now, 10 years later, the journey continues with the news of a sequel. And I’m old enough to see it, not that it would have stopped me otherwise.

That’s right, Attack the Block 2 (no official title at the moment). Boyega is reuniting with original director Joe Cornish and original producers like StudioCanal and Film4. Boyega is also recruiting his production company, Upper Room, for the film. The sequel is currently in the early stages of production, with plot details being kept under wraps. However we do know that Boyega will be reprising his role of Moses, the charismatic leader of the crew the first film. No word yet on any other cast returns, but I’m hoping both  Whitaker and Frost reprise their roles as Samantha and Ron respectively.

The news of this sequel comes just in time for the film’s 10th-year anniversary. As of writing, you can’t find Attack the Block on any major streaming services like Netflix or Hulu, but you can find it on Tubi, to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, or on Blu-Ray. No matter how you do it, I strongly suggest checking out the first one. The strong blend of sci-fi and comedy, and the tightness of the cast (most of whom were UK local drama students, including Boyega) delivers a cult film status that the second will most certainly have to live up to.
