You know I’m a sucker for stories featuring Asian Americans in the south. That’s why I created a whole podcast to highlight said stories. So you better believe I’ll be at the theater on September 17 when Focus Features’ Blue Bayou is released!
Written, directed, produced by, and starring award-winning multi-hyphenate Justin Chon, Blue Bayou tells the story of “a uniquely American family fighting for their future.” Featuring Alicia Vikander, Mark O’Brien, Linh Dan Pham, and Emory Cohen, the film was an official selection of the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and looks to be an award contender this fall.
Here’s the official synopsis of the movie:
Antonio LeBlanc (Chon), a Korean adoptee raised in a small town in the Louisiana bayou, is married to the love of his life Kathy (Alicia Vikander) and step-dad to their beloved daughter Jessie. Struggling to make a better life for his family, he must confront the ghosts of his past when he discovers that he could be deported from the only country he has ever called home.

Blue Bayou will release only in theaters on September 17.
