Today, Universal just announced that they are moving forward with a new SYFY series called Astrid and Lilly Save the World.
To star in the show, SYFY has tapped two rising stars, Filipina Canadian actress Jana Morrison will play Astrid, and coming with her for the ride is fellow Canadian singer/songwriter/actress Samantha Aucoin.
Per Universal:
High school is hard enough when you’re different, but when outcast BFFs Astrid and Lilly accidentally crack open a portal to a terrifyingly quirky monster dimension, it gets a lot more complicated. It’s up to them to vanquish the creepy creatures and save the world, becoming the badass heroes they were meant to be. That is, if they can survive the horrors of high school.
Loving the Buffy meets Booksmart vibes from the synopsis. And even more than that, the fact that they’ve got a Filipina actress co-headlining such a quirky and fun premise is absolutely fantastic!
