Simone Recasner stars as Gabby Lewis in the new FOX dramedy The Big Leap. The series is an innovative show-within-a-show that takes viewers on a journey of self-acceptance and empowerment at any age. The Big Leap premieres on Monday, September 20 at 9/8c.
THE BIG LEAP is a modern tale about second chances, chasing your dreams and taking back what’s yours. The show revolves around a group of diverse, down-on-their-luck characters attempting to change their lives by participating in a potentially life-ruining reality dance show that builds to a live production of “Swan Lake.”
The character of Gabby Lewis is an aspiring dancer who had big dreams of becoming a professional dancer, but her dreams were set on hold once she became a new mom after high school. When she stumbles upon an open casting call for The Big Leap, her passion for dance is reignited and she takes a second shot at her dance career.
Recasner has been acting on the stage for many years. In New York, she starred in Ain’t No Mo at The Public Theater. She also participated in The Director’s Lab at Lincoln Center Theater as well as starred in regional theatrical productions, including Pride and Prejudice at the Pittsburgh Public Theater.
I had the chance to speak with the actress about The Big Leap being her first TV project, getting to bring such beautiful representation to the screen, the show-within-a-show aspect, mixing the drama and comedy genres, her first day on set, and much more.
